Where is the best place to get one? I have checked out several places around columbus so far the diamond cellar and Alexander’s in the short north. Others have recommended places like diamonds direct, James Allen, Costco or blue nile. Anyone have experience or recommendations? I have about 4500-6000 price range cash as a budget
Got my wife's ring from the Diamond Cellar, great experience. Of course, that was pushing 30 years ago so who knows.
I got my ring from the guy that owns CDI Diamonds and Jewelry in Dublin. I'm not sure how it would have been if I had gone into the store, but the price seemed good for the grade compared to some of the other places I shopped around at. (Friend of my Dads, he brought up a few diamonds to NEO for me to look at). They can also make a custom band if wanted. Quick Google search shows that they have good reviews.

Find a mom and pop shop. They normally don't try to fuck you over, and they aren't dealing with high pressure sales. It normally reduces the cost of a diamond by 2K.

You're not wrong, it's a crazy business. Once I learned that Diamonds aren't a scarce resource, I was amazed. Can't think of another business like it.

Gave my wife my mom's first set. They upgraded after 10 years. I told my wife that was her option -- upgraded ring or hot tub. She'll get a hot tub.
Diamonds are a scam. Ain't no reason to put that much money into something that truly doesn't mean/do anything. I'll never allow my kids to do the same with a ring (2 girls and 1 boy). Young marriages could do so much more than spending thousands on a circular band.

You only have to worry about one spending on a ring, and do you think you will actually have a say in what your son does when he is at the age of proposing?
My Gf isnt the type to be worried about the price of the ring or what people think. She would probably be happy with a ring 1/2 the price of what i'm going to spend, but I am the one who doesnt want to look cheap or whatever when she shows her friends and posts it on FB or what not. Plus she deserves it for putting up with me for 6 years and keeping me together. I probably shouldn't care what people think either but I do.
got mine at kohls, 70% off sale. paid $749 for the engagement ring and the wedding band combo. absolutely best decision ive ever made.
Scam might be the wrong word, but their value is almost entirely propped up by an effective marketing campaign and roughly a century of a monopoly over the diamond industry. People buy diamond rings because it's just what you do, no critical thinking is involved.

I'll have a say, but in the end it is his decision. We'll communicate to our kids about "value." It's important to us that our kids make good decisions. Of course, depending on their situation, spending thousands is not a good decision.

which is why i am happy with my choice to get the cheapest version of these pieces of shit that i could.
First, pick the stone you want from a local, long-standing gemologist. Then decide on the setting/ring, and what would look best for the stone you chose.

My friend called off his marriage a week AFTER the engagement photos were taken and blasted all over the internet. He paid 30k for the ring, still hasn't gotten it back (and I don't think he will).
