I asked this 20 days ago.  With the info we have now, what is your barometer for being able to open back up?

I'm still for the initial guidelines. Positives declining, while testing increases, manageable hospital situation, etc.

"Stage 3" still seems months away for me though. Sucks.

Funny to see NBC circulating a report that supports far-right rumors.  And, as is typical, they bury the lede about midway down the article:

One U.S. official who has seen the document said the data "looks really weak to me and some of the conclusions don't make sense."

Heard more fear speak today that "sports may not be back til spring!!!1!!"  S.T.F.U.!  Get through May.  Then June. Then July. Then August. Then September.  You get the picture.  Everyone is seeing how crazy their speculations can get.

The delays have been purposefully set for smaller time increments, i.e. two weeks, or 30 days.  They know it is an easier ‘sell’ …………..”ah, just two more weeks” etc..  Had they been up front and stated we are on lockdown for 4 months, or 6 months, or 1 year, they would have had civil unrest like they’ve not seen before.  It has been calculated.

By the looks of media stories.....this thing is now 90% political.  If this wasnt an election year....we would be back to normal

We're going over to a friends house tonight to hangout with with a small group (6 total, including us) for the first time in a while. Hopefully we still know how to interact with other people.

We're also both taking Friday off and will likely take advantage of places being open for outdoor dining.

I am going to the beach for a week and am not worried about being around the other 12 people that are going.

Heard an anecdote yesterday.  Guy I know went to the hospital in March (COVID), handed insurance card, and that is the last thing he remembers. Struggled for a bit, but is on the road to recovery.

Starting to lose my mind so, I'm going to a cabin this weekend w/ my gf. Middle of nowhere, won't interact with anyone. It was actually a bitch to find an Air BnB. Two cancelled because they are currently not taking short term rentals, or not enough time to "air out" the place from the previous occupants.

New social media trend:

Dr. Acton: It’s possible we had cases early back as January

Some asshole on Facebook (and probably Spock also): I had a cold last July I bet that was the corona virus!

What’s the odds the Dems get the $2k /month stimulus deal to go through?

And then their media will cry about unemployment rates.

0%? Last i read republicans were going to pass on continuing to hand out money. That deal was nuts anyways. Why does a 16yo need 2K a month?

Long read from the NYT.

It's about Didier Raoult, the French microbiologist who promoted the HCQ treatment.

Haven't you heard?  It's no worse than the common flu, so a treatment is unnecessary.  ;)

For the vast majority of people who get it, it really isn’t much worse than the common flu.

My dad, my sister, my son, my wife, and my mom all had it.

Only my mom and wife said it was slightly worse than the common flu. The others, including myself and my other two sons who definitely had it just asymptomatic, it was easier than the flu.

With no vaccine and no prior immunity.  It's brutal on the most vulnerable, but that's because they don't even have related antibodies to help fight it.  I just hope this doesn't become seasonal, especially because I don't think this will be the last coronavirus pandemic - we dodged a real bullet that this wasn't anywhere near as deadly as SARS or MERS.

Actually I'm a little surprised this board has had a pretty level discussion on it.  On other boards I peruse it's pretty easy to tell where people get their news (on both sides).  It's not something that should be political, but the people I see strongly against going back to work maintain an irrational fear that clearly isn't based on data and evidence.  Doesn't matter - ask what good extending the lockdowns will do, or how long they should go, or why they shouldn't wear a mask, social distance, etc....and it's a meltdown and then spammed with feelz or 'Murica.

The partisan stupidity in this country has finally been weaponized into something dangerous.

So LA county thinks they are going to be able to keep the stay at home order through July? That’s insane, going to be so many business closures and bankruptcies.
