Was a little surprised to see some places opening back up yesterday. Drove past the Dunkin and Starbuck's and they were packed with people inside. They had been drive thru only until this weekend.

Supposed to be limited and safe distance.

Yeah, well, people are idiots by nature.

I thought inside dining didn’t open til next week? I know with restaurants you can still go inside to pick up your food but with fast food there’s no reason to be inside yet right?

None of the fast food places here are open for inside pickup (except pizza places). It was just the coffee/donut places. Panera wasn't open for walk-in's, just Dunkin/Starbucks. The Starbucks location looked especially foolish because it looked like it was jam packed inside.

Today, South Carolina is allowing 50% occupancy indoors with limitations on 6 feet apart tables, sanitation, etc. Georgia has had their restaurants for 2 weeks and their hospitalization numbers continue to decrease (lowest since they started reporting numbers on April 8th), so hopefully the mitigation measures continue to work.

On a separate note, I am still shocked by how Cuomo is looked at so favorably by his state during this.

Cases, deaths, hospitalizations all going down.

I still don't expect the "pause" order to be lifted anytime soon. Gonna be a rather lame summer.

I'm not looking to veer this thread off into a political angle, but as far as Cuomo goes, this is the same group that voted AOC in so that should give you an idea.

It's the idea that he is going to chirp about presidential decisions about something that he screwed up.   And also you made my point about total deaths...if corona is so deadly and Trump messed up.....why dont we have more deaths?

The only way I "made your point" is if you're so stupid you have no idea what your point is. Oh...wait...never mind, carry on.

Besides, why should Obama just sit quietly when Trump is breaking OC Political Law #1 by attempting to blame his administration for the issues his is having with COVID despite it being 3+ years into his reign? I mean, I do distinctly remember reading a lot of people saying that was a pathetic attempt at passing the buck a few years back!

once again not the point.

Former president shouldnt be blasting away about anything on national TV.  Not the norm.  Not what this country needs.  He had 8 years to form the government to be able to handle these situations but failed to do so.

There is a reason he is going on offense; he has now been directly implicated in the corruption and conspiracy at the FBI and DoJ.  Stay tuned.

I wish we could start a poll for this, but serious question to everyone contributing to this thread.  At what point do you think people should be allowed to leave their homes?

I asked this 20 days ago.  With the info we have now, what is your barometer for being able to open back up?

Available hospital beds.  To me, that was always the concern.  When the virus' behavior was less well-known, the lockdown was to prevent hospitals from getting inundated.  Now that we know that this is not going to happen - in fact we weren't even close, we can and should open up across the board.  Those who have health issues should do what they must to stay safe.

No one from my specific department has had hours cut or furloughed but other people from the hospital have. I’m apart of a healthcare workers group on Facebook and across the country, respiratory therapists and nurses have reported slow business and their jobs have been impacted. There’s obviously hot spots where that’s the opposite but seems overwhelmingly it’s been slow. I’m not sitting here saying “open up so everyone gets sick again!” But I do think there’s wiggle room. If things open and people get sick, healthcare will be fine. We’ve accomplished that at least.

"Allowed?"

We should never have been disallowed.

I’m good on anymore Dewine press conferences. I’ve only watched a few but even those feel like too many.

I think the "every weekday" aspect makes them too over-present, where too many of them are some weird little skit with kids doing something or whatever followed by a whole bunch of "we're looking into things" and "stay the course" messages that don't really say that much. Be best, especially now, to only hold maybe 1 definite conference a week, as well as any that need held to give special announcements concerning stuff opening or closing or stuff along those lines that are really pertinent to the actual process. Hell, it'd be a big improvement to just do Monday and Friday status reports instead of every day.
