Today's theme is driving related threads.

How many times have you been ticketed for things like speeding, accidents, etc? How many years have you been driving?

I've had my license for 20 years and have one ticket. I was busted for speeding on 70 W between Zanesville and Hebron by airplane on 4th of July weekend pushing 10 years ago. I think I was doing 83 or 86, I can't remember exactly.

I have had my license for 15ish years now.  I received one ticket in college going 65 in a 45 (speed trap).  I also have received 10 speeding/red light camera tickets in DC, however I have fought them all and I am 10-0 against the DC DMV.  They can go fuck themselves.

Edit: I also was given a saturday school punishment for speeding out of my HS.

1 ticket - 90 in a 70 in Iowa, LA - Pronounced EYE-OH-WAY - the cop (city cop) followed me to an ATM let me pay the fine in cash, and let me keep all copies of the ticket (i.e. never reported it).

1 written warning for going 85 in a 55 in Stockport, OH - I was 1.5 hours late for work and passed this OHP officer in the same spot every morning, Being late he was not where i was used to seeing him and he got me. First thing he asked was if I was late to work, which i of course was. Then he said, how much further to work, it was like 12 miles, he said "you're not going to make up an hour in 12 miles, slow down and set an alarm." wrote the warning for 60 in a 55 and walked away.

Sounds like that cop got a free dinner that night.

About 6 months ago, I was turning left at a light and the light went yellow then red. When the oncoming traffic was cleared, I turned left. A cop was right at the corner there and pulled me over for running a red light. And then wouldn’t accept my phone as proof of insurance (insurance card on an app). And then ticketed me for not having a city sticker.

I had to hand over my DL because I couldn’t prove I had insurance. Which forced me to go to court. I showed up to court and showed that I purchased a $100 city sticker after the incident, that ticket was thrown out. Showed my insurance card, so that ticket was thrown out. And then the judge agreed that turning left at a red after yielding to oncoming traffic is not illegal, so he threw that out.

Then asked me to head to the cashier and pay court fees of $212, but all tickets were dropped.

How can the cop not accept your phone as proof of insurance? That's nonsense.

I told that story about the Iowa cop to some guys i worked with and they all had similar stories. Apparently Calcasieu Parish was notorious for that shit.

She was in a terrible mood and really mean. She basically said “oh you want me to take your phone to my car? And what if the screen goes black, how am I supposed to get it back on? I can’t accept this.”

i was just like uhhh okay??

I’m pretty sure they can just look up Insurance now. I was shuffling through my glove for it and the cop said I just need registrations and Drivers License. I can look up your insurance from there. My buddy back in Toledo confirmed that isn’t just in North Carolina and he can do that as well.

Anyway, a ridiculous amount of speeding tickets for my 16 years of driving. None over 17, which pisses me off the most. But I think 6-7 total. And a right turn on red (where it wasn’t legal) at 3:00am. Cop clearly was looking for a DUI, but I was stone sober. Fucker.

I've had two speeding tickets in the 28 years of having a drivers license. I've been pulled over several times in the last 10 years that I've had my carry permit and never ticketed. Eighty in a 55 on time, yeah the permit certainly helps.

I got my first four tickets all at once.

91 in a 45, reckless op, failure to control, and no operators licence. 1977 and 375 dollars. No points

I've had pnly one moving violation on record, nearly 35 years ago.  That's over a 44-year span.  My wife had one when she was 17, that's it. My sons are another matter.  They've had 5 each by the time they were 21.

* * * *

December 1984, going to work at the post office, night shift.  I was running late because the girl I was seeing at the time had family members at her place and was doing some home cooking.  She had me stop by to pick up a plate for my lunch (how could I resist?), and I tried to hustle to work so I wouldn't get docked.

Naturally a city cop nailed me on I-70 downtown, 68 in a 55.  He was very professional, said "Sir, I'm not going to waste your time but I did clock you at 68.  I agreed, and he had my citation in short order.  And I still got docked at work for being 15 minutes late.

* * * *

Next October, same girl and I are heading to a Halloween party, and were running late on the freeway.  I'm wearing a full Wolfman costume (the mask was off), and my girl has a gorilla costume on.  The cop waves us to the berm, comes over and looks in, says "What 's your hurry - Oh wait a sec.  What's going on?"  I said, "Sir, we're going to a party, and I thought I'd be late."  He's trying not to laugh..  "Okay - but go slower, and keep that lady of yours safe.  It's okay if you're late", and walked away without citing me.

In my 28 years of driving I’ve had 4 speeding tickets (1 bogus, 2 bs)

37 in a 25....legit

70/55 —- helicopter math!

55/35 —— literally 5 feet passed sign

37 in a 25...on a county road out of corporation 🤷🏻‍♂️

A couple warnings

I bet no one has 2 speeding tickets going under 40 mph

Multiple decades driving, probably about 10 tix, almost all speed (one by helicopter; I-77); another 8 or so warnings; zero accidents.  [One of the speeds by camera in Cleveland Hts --- shove it, never paid.]
