So....this seems like overall not a great idea?

It's a case of "careful what you wish for".

The European protests are hilarious. They have nothing to care for.

"Well Mr. Spock, we appreciate you interviewing with us.  We found you to be the most qualified guy and everyone here thinks you'd be great for the position.  That said, we wanted you to know that we're going to go ahead and give the job to a black guy who is not a qualified as you.  We just wanted to make sure that you were clear that you'd been passed over so the less able black guy could be given the position.  We want to be transparent."

Insert women in there and you just about nailed it.

Do you realize that you humble brag on almost every post ?

If saying a girl had a full ride in engineering is humble bragging then lol, oh well.

There are about 2 million engineers in the US and about 70-80,000 new engineers graduate each year  it’s not like it’s unique to graduate from engineering in college

Help people? Sure, a little. Significantly help their lives? No, not imo. That’s the state and federal laws. They could devote more resources to the bad neighborhoods, but the budget set by the state wouldn’t allow that. Just don’t see the city being able to address the overarching issues in America. It need to start at the state and federal levels, then trickle down to something the cities can work with.

Your everyday life is affected far more by local and state changes than federal changes and it’s not even close.

I understand that. Don’t think the small things make a difference though. There has to be radical changes, plans federally funded, etc for the cycle to break. A mayor isn’t getting shit done in that regard. Sorry.

Voting for Dems at the local level after they haven’t done shit to help them sure isn’t going to help either. I am not even arguing that they should vote for republicans, because I doubt they would help either, but most of these cities have had full dem control since the 70s and look where they are now.  Maybe BLM can start running as third party candidates in these cities and towns to try and make changes.

Regardless who is running the show at the government level, I don’t think we will see much change until shit is fixed at home. You can only throw so much money and pass so many laws at a problem. Until black families start increasing the number of two parent households (currently only around 32%), nothing is ever going to change. This isn’t a black only issue btw. We are starting to see the number of white families with two parent households decease and it’s creating issues.   A two parent household can fix a lot of issues. If you want to argue the system takes some of those parents (mainly fathers) away from their children, I agree. A good start would be to stop sending people to jail for non violent crimes.  That would help keep fathers in their children’s lives.

I’ve seen a lot of people running full spin zone on the “defund the police” narrative by saying it doesn’t really mean to defund police.  This sounds very familiar to “nobody is trying to take your guns.”

The irony is I had a lot of people tell me “yOu WaNt uS tO bAsICaLLy bE SoMaLiA” when I support less government, and yet here we are with the same people saying we should defund the police.

Europe protesting racism directed at the US is a joke. Europe is far more racist than the US. The longer I live in Europe, the more clear this becomes. Clean up your own house, before you try to lecture us.

I mean, dismantling the police is exaggerated. But they do need to do something about the Minneapolis police department.  They just recently found over 1,000 rape kits that were never tested. On top of all the systematic racism issues they have, something needs to be done.

Defunding/ Dismantling are horrible phrasing. I would say it is more like reforming or restructuring the police. People are of course going to be resistant to eliminating the police, but given the polling and people protesting, people would be in favor of reforming them.

Cool, but the head of the police unions and most police unions are the problem. The police union head has almost more power than the Chief in some cities. The heads of the unions are all for resisting any sort of change that the chief or even the council throws at them.

Wish the local council here resembled that pic. Good variety young, middle age, white, black, male, female....look functional too.

Good article on this whole "blast" culture.

Poor guy was mistakenly identified and had his name drug through the mud.

As for the woman who shared his home address: She deleted it and posted an apology, writing that in all of her eagerness to see justice served, she was swept up in the mob that so gleefully shared misinformation, depriving someone of their own right to justice. Her correction was shared by fewer than a dozen people.

This is the cancel culture at work.  In this case, the guy wasn't even involved.  But it shows the mob of social media warriors are mindless in their pursuit.  The woman who posted his address "issued and apology".  Great, what a help.

NFL pregame, postgame, and the days in between games are going to be unwatchable this fall.

Looks like it is turning it on at kickoff, and turning it off at the final whistle.

I think they should just do the Anthem while the players are in the lockerroom.
