I get it. I have friends who have that opinion and we just agree not to discuss it. I think the general public being outraged is overkill but I think his teammates and friends are going to be upset not over his opinion but over his tone def lack of awareness that his memory of his papaw in ww2 is more important to him than what is happening to them and their families. He works at a job that is 70% black so I mean with the amount of time those guys spend together I’m sure they were hurt.
I agree with that. To me, the fact random Twitter people are outraged AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE OUTRAGED means nothing because right now, on both sides of the political spectrum, we're living in an era where weaponized outrage is the main form of "debate" on social media (fuck, I saw something unbelievably stupid even by Twitter standards when people were blasting actress Emma Watson for customizing her black box deal to her Instagram feed Tuesday or something like that...).
I was surprised by his statement because it came off as tone deaf to all those teammates in a "I wouldn't do it and they shouldn't, too" sort of way where why they're upset and would want to potentially kneel/protest wasn't even remotely resonating with him. Seems it would have been far better for him to have said something along the lines of how he personally isn't comfortable with kneeling due to his family and military service, but that not everyone has the same feelings that he does and in the wake of events and how he knows a lot of people, including teammates, who are upset by them, he feels it's more important right now to listen to them and do what he can to help because this isn't about him right now. Doesn't have to be something super-woke or whatnot; just that he cares about how his teammates are feeling about current events and will support them as much as he can.
