This is all going to settle down soon.  When it does it will act as a trial run.

Also I cant wait to hear about the North Korean body count.

Got the official WFH go-ahead from my hospital site yesterday. I can remotely access our electronic medical record so there isn’t really any reason I need to be there. We had a number of suspected positives come in through the front door yesterday.

Assessed my ammo situation today and wasn't happy with it. Went to a local gun shop/range tonight after dinner and it was pretty packed. They said they had been extremely busy all day.

But, now I'm confident I have enough rounds to kill any coronaviruses that show up at my doorstep. Solidarity, Spock.

After shopping my local grocery for a couple of items yesterday, I'm far more concerned about the mood of my fellow man rather than shortages/hoarding. There are always rude people, but I sensed an unusual anger among a number of them. I'm normally a concealed carry guy, but I'm wondering if I should switch to open carry in public places as a "leave me the fuck alone" signal.

You're sitting on the edge of your seat, eagerly waiting to see how many people have died?

No, it won't.

It will, depending on the definition of "soon". This epidemic will almost surely behave as most do, new cases will look like a bell curve. A  problem with the shitty job we've done with testing is that it makes it much harder to determine where we are on that curve.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how people have been behaving in Cincinnati.

....and the winner is........

Coronavirus.   All DoD travel is halted through 11 may.   I had 2 training events, both 2 week long, that I've had scheduled for 18 months get canned.   Looked like a longer wait for promotion.

The question is how many people will get it?  Or maybe the better question (the one that concerns health officials) is what will the active number of cases peak at?  I don't know if it will be as bad here as Italy, but it seems over 100k cases in the US probably wouldn't be surprising.

Merkel told her people to expect 60-70% to catch it over the next few years until a vaccine is available.  If it's as contagious as it supposedly is, I'm not sure how it doesn't explode across the population after a month or two.  I can't imagine how it's possible that like 2M people get it and recover every month.  I don't know how you "flatten the curve" unless you can contain and isolate the outbreak to a relatively tiny percentage (i.e. like 0.05% of the population).  But in that scenario, at most only about 5% of the population would get it over 2 years.

If what Merkel says is accurate, then we're talking 200M infected in the US, and probably well over 1M dying from it.

Seems pretty far fetched. I hadn’t seen this before but some French doctor said this is why Italy is so bad “ French head of ER explaining why Italy suffered so badly. i) Italy has poor primary care so everyone went to hospital ii) Covid-19 patients then got mixed in with other patients. iii) Failure to isolate patients suspected of having the virus.”

And cancelling stuff will probably help, but reports are that bars and restaurants are still killing it bc people have nothing else to do, and aren’t worried enough about this.

All is well with my wife and I, thanks for asking.  I've been meaning to provide an update here to give you all some perspective, but every fucking day there seems to be a new layer to this.  Anyway, it has been a very interesting and unique experience so far to say the least.  I will follow up with a detailed post soon.

Yea no doubt.....whatever is going on there could likely be mirrored here if all these people keep spreading it around

That's why some want to greatly exaggerate the threat, because that's the only way some people will listen (especially if they aren't in the at-risk group).  But then the people who always overreact to everything start to panic.

Yep. It’s the prophet saying, “the better a prophet, the less he is right”

If we take all these correct measures and curb the spread and allow hospitals and heard immunity to recover/work it will seem like a gross overreaction. If we don’t, and it spreads like crazy, we didn’t do enough in time.

Government (and individuals have to abide) has to take the measures even though they will be ridiculed if it works by a large section of the country/voting base.

Many years ago we pissed each other off a bit on here but damnit I trust what you say about what’s going on with this as much as anyone. Anticipating your words and thoughts being in your situation in Italy.

I’m sure my gym will close soon and that’s going to really bother me when it does. Getting that hour to go there each day keeps me sane sometimes. Going for a run outside or working out at home isn’t going to cut it. Idk, maybe it’s the losing your routine that hurts more than anything.

Not particular to reply to you and I have no idea what you do at the gym, but body weight is a great workout, or grab something heavy to carry around

I know, bro, it's tough to give someone a spot from 6 feet away
