I am surprised vegans watch football. I presumed they were all watching WE TV or at the ballet instead of watching the game

Maybe someone told them about it.

Today, all the talk of the state of the union. 

The thing is an over bloated pomp and circumstance that needs to die.

I usually just read the text after the hour plus long speech and save myself over 45 minutes. 

I wish Presidents would go old school and deliver the address in writing and save us all time.

I am going out on a limb here and calling you out that if this was a Dem president you wouldnt have posted that.  Just like all the other lefties, you dont want the Pub president standing up and telling everyone in this county how good its actually going.

Nope. I rarely watched Obama's either. 

I used to watch back when I was growing up, Clinton, Bush, and I think Obama's 1st one. But, over the past maybe 7-8 years, I just read them now. I have other shit to do. 

I'll read the speech. I don't mind the speech or content. The whole clapping that doubles the time is what is annoying as shit to me. 

Are you going to watch the over hour speech?

I am 100% with you. The last 5 years I have waited until the next day and watched the edited version on youtube that takes all the clapping/ovations out.

I agree with you.  I don't watch these either.  The last one I watched it's entirety was Bush jr after 9/11.  The clapping on one side while the other sits morose is the stupidest thing ever.  It's our Congress' opportunity to pretend their chamber is lively like the UK parlimant.  But it is not and non of them are those types of players.  Instead they look like jackasses.   The whole thing has really turned into the "look who is clapping" show.  I don 't want to hear Trump's BS, I have no interested the democratic "response", I don't want to see the right wing or left wing extremists make faces, I don't want to see the Supreme Court judges forced to sit there and try not to look like they'd like to be anywhere else.  In modern times, we are now also treated to the close ups of the "special guests" sitting up in the balconey that are used to further reinforce the care and concern of the sitting president.  

An obnoxious crap show that does absolutely nothing to help anything.  Was it good back the days before modern communication when there were not ways for the average citizen to get a current assessment on the country from the president easily?  Sure.  Those days are long, long gone.

Same here.  I don't think I've sat through one since maybe the first one after Lil Bush's re-election.  I either read them or catch an abridged video version on replay.  Just seems like a waste of time to sit through all the pomp.

I wasn't even aware she had the honor of delivering the response until you mentioned her name.  And no, I'm not a racist.   While there is no way to measure it, I am fairly certain that no one has ever been influenced or convinced by a "response" after of SOTU ever.  I see that streak staying alive in 2019.
