Right now I would have to file it under  "big, if true."

He tweeted several times he would never touch social security and bragged he was the only GOP to make that promise and here we are

It is a proposal but he literally said he would not propose that.

Are you going to accuse the President of the United States of America of being a liar?

That is treasonous!

Either way, when you have states saying Medicaid can be used for Transgender surgeries, it’s obvious reform needs to happen. Not sure why him going back on this surprises you more than anything else.

I guess I don’t have a huge understanding of everything in the Medicare cuts as it seems rather complex by moving funds from several areas, I just hate to see corporations getting trillions while the little guy who puts into SS his whole life gets even less than is almost already nothing. I don’t pay into it but i did explore the student loan forgiveness program which I see is also on the chopping block. We give billions to other countries and shit on our seniors. He also made huge cuts to vet programs. We should take care of our middle class

It doesn't surprise me that he's a liar. It also doesn't surprise me that some people would defend him because he's Republican.

I’m not defending “him”. Our social programs are broken and leeched upon so I just don’t care what he previously said. None of this is going to pass anyway.

Are we now in 2019 pretending that all politicians aren’t full of shit? “If you like your Dr you can keep your Dr”

Not many professions are trusted less than politicians.   Their one and only job isnt to their constituents, it is to get re elected.

What you should hate is the authority that confiscates trillions by force.  Employers by force of law match employees contributions to SS and Medicare.  Yet to attract the best employees some of these evil corporations offer health insurance and retirement plans that match loyal employees at 50% beyond their forced contribution so they get something that is not nothing.

He said there wouldn't be any cuts, and there aren't. Outlays for Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid go up between 3-10% every year of his budget.

Hopefully we will actually cut – drastically – the number of people receiving SS disability.  It used to be near impossible to get SS disability, and rightly so, it kept the deadbeats from abusing the system.  But under obama the numbers rose dramatically …(mainly because his policies prevented hiring), so they loosened up the ability to draw SS disability in order to keep the sheep at bay -- terrible move.  We could save tens of billions by cleaning up that mess, and we should.

Lowering future INCREASE PERCENTAGES is NOT the same as a cut. The spending is still going up each year, just not by a much as previously expected (assuming his proposal gets passed, which it has zero chance of doing).

Yeah, once you dig into the numbers, the mandatory parts are not cuts, they are just not as high increases. The big three: SS, Medicare, Medicaid, still go up every year for 10 years, just not as much as in previous budgets.

The real gripes are the agency budgets. Outside of the DOD, VA, NASA and Energy (but only the nuke stuff), every agency is getting cut.

An area where the President campaigned on, rebuilding America is getting cut. The Army Corps of Engineers is down 31% and the Department of Transportation is down 21.5%.

Kinda hard to rebuild the infrastructure of the two main agencies are getting gashed.

As others have said, this budget is just the start and will not be the end product. But, this does show the policy priorities for the President. Apparently, infrastructure and rebuilding America is not one of them.

List of the budget, with tables at the end: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/budget-fy2020.pdf

Trump had plenty of good ideas involving a ton of private sector money to complement the taxpayer dollars for infrastructure.  The resistors said No.

Fuck ‘em; start making cuts.

Not really. His plan released last year landed with a thud as private industry stated there is nothing concrete to entice investment. The programs to help finance and select projects for the private sector to invest in are getting gashed. It was just a shiny plan to invest $200B over 10 years and hope the rest of the money falls from the sky.

Also, I'm not sure cutting the Corps of Engineers civil budget for dams and waterways is a great idea.

Oh, and the highway trust fund will still run out of money in a year or two.
