If it ended it was because you can NEVER count on government to do anything right, or live up to their end of a deal.  You wonder why bombs and guns and wrenches and widgets cost so much --- try being a vendor dealing with the whipsaw of government whim, budget disasters, and elections every two years. The idea that some ratio of private to public investment could occur was put out there; government fumbled the ball again and taxpayers will probably now get to foot the entire bill. Bravo.

You just explained, aptly I might add, why I would love to see Social Security go away and why government oversight of a massive wall-building project doesn't seem like a great idea.

I have a friend, who must've just read a FDR book tell me that SS is the greatest contribution to the US in its entire history.  LOL

Could not agree more on SS.

Federal government’s main purpose is national defense; build the wall.

Well... obviously you CAN count on the government when they're the ones you support.

The wall will SAVE taxpayer $$$$$$$$$$$$, to the tune of hundreds of billions over 5 years.

You are assuming the wall will be on time and on budget. I highly, highly doubt a project of this size and nature will be done on time and on budget. Plus, that assumes the project is not killed in the courts or faces long delays due to various right of way lawsuits and stops.

…….because it isn’t.   We spend upwards of $150 billion per year on illegal immigrants.  If we save half of that going forward, by spending $25 billion on a wall, the payback is 4 months, and the savings over five years exceeds $350 billion.  This is the easiest decision in congressional history, except when your personal hatred for Trump causes you to not fulfill your duty to The People.

Sources on the $150 billion part?

Also, evidence that the wall will serve its intended purpose?

I've lost track on what is actually being discussed when referencing "the wall."

Is this just a small section of an actual wall? A wall across the entire border? Chainlink fence?

Plmk.

Should we build it?  Will it be effective?  Will it be cost effective?  Is it justified?  How will it be build?

Basically whatever, I think.

I love the idea that QO thinks he can realistically calculate the cost of undocumented people. Since.. you know... they’re undocumented. So any and everything would purely be an estimate. Also.. a wall can’t remove people who are already here. Or people that didn’t come from the southern border. Or people who are paying taxes under fake id’s that would now be taken away.  Or... well you get the idea, right?

You forgot people who fly here or who get here through the Canadian border.

We're trying to use a 6000-year-old method strategy against what those supporting it consider a problem (to whatever degree, since, as you mentioned, a lot of this will be pie-in-the-sky estimate work) today.

I was counting those under people who didn’t come thru the southern border

How about Trump and Conway going at it?  Kellyanne and her husband have to be separated right? There is no way this would be happening if their marriage wasn't a sham.

I hope so at least. Otherwise it’s pretty shitty to trash your spouses employer publicly no matter how you truly feel.

Great point. I know a significant amount of "illegals" living in NYC. 100% of them arrived here via airplane.
