Might as well just bring this back as it’s only going to get worse. The Chicago video is rough. Kid is 13, 2:30am, appears to have his arms up and gets killed. Hand tests positive for gunfire, but didn’t necessarily have it in his hand when he turns towards the police. Good luck for Chicago tonight, and on Monday the Chauvin case has closing arguments in Minn.

Not surprising, no one cares that the police are being assaulted in Brooklyn Center the past week, they only care when they can pretend it was an insurrection.

Also no one cares about the north west people trying to burn down ICE centers with people in it and other police headquarters. Very selective outrage.

I don’t know what to say about the police shootings anymore. So the Toledo kid wasn’t armed right? Was he even connected to the shootings they were responding to? Or did a cop just spot a black kid walking around in the night and stop chase him?

He was armed, and was connected to the shootings. But he doesn’t appear to be armed when shot (dropped it right before). Parenting not on point.

Did the kid fully comply and still get shot? I’m not watching the video, but from what I’ve read he was told to stop, drop the gun, and put his hands up. Based on the stills I’ve seen he did everything that was asked of him.

Regardless of the circumstances that led up to that point, you can throw out the “jUsT cOmPlY aNd YoU wOnT gEt ShOt” argument. This isn’t the first time cops have killed someone that was following their orders. It won’t be the last.

Middle of the night, running from cops with a gun,  what do you think might happen?

As for the fake outrage in Chicago.....50 people a week gets shot there.  Give me a break.

I don’t know. I find myself torn in many different directions with this stuff. The cop fucked up, but we don’t know til after the fact that he did. When you’re out in the middle of night, mixed up in shootings, and run from cops...do you deserve to die? Absolutely not, but you exacerbated the situation, and that can’t be ignored. Mayor Lightfoot can stop the “we failed the kid” stuff. Toledo was failed long before that night.

Yes.  But we have to stop pretending that his actions didn't contribute to the cop fucking up.  When you get into your car, you're like 1000X more likely to die by accident than cop.  So let's stop pretending that the very rare latter event justifies being a dumbass dick to police in every situation.

I've mentioned this several times - doctors get a pass, but cops have to be perfect?  Cops are damn near 6 sigma quality in terms of not wrongfully killing someone.

I'm guessing everyone should be more afraid of Uber drivers, by an order of magnitude.

I havent been able to find a great video to fully watch exactly what happened and I am as critical of police as anyone, but from what I saw I cant really fault the officer in this case too much.  13 year olds shouldnt be out at 230 am and with hanging with people with guns.

The kid was a moron, there is no doubt about that. BUT, he appears to have complied with every order given and was still shot and killed. So, again, the "just comply and you won't get shot" argument that gets thrown around really isn't a legit argument.

Except the part where he’s running from cops in the first place.

He should've kept running then.

Did the cop tell him to drop the weapon?

Did he drop the weapon?

Did the cop tell him to put his hands up?

Did he put his hands up?

Did the cop still shoot him?

Did he really comply?  Really?

The video I saw was that as he stopped and started to turn toward the cop, he had the gun in his hand.

Do you know how to not get shot by the cops?  Anything bit what that kid did would help.

Too bad that kid wasn't a chubby loser who loves cops like Rittenhouse, because then the cops would have ignored him regardless of what he did and the right-wingers would be praising him instead of justifying his death.

That's broad brush statement ...............it is probably a 98% certainty that if you comply you will not get shot.

This is one of those cases where 98% is actually pretty damn bad.

Obviously it's not 100% foolproof - cops have mistaken bystanders and shot people.  They've shot people doing absolutely nothing wrong and being fully cooperative.

That still doesn't change the fact that when you resist or attempt to evade arrest, your chance of being wrongfully killed by the cop goes up 100-fold.
