Yeah the one bad apple thing gets no credence from me. There are a lot of bad apples, and the cops who do nothing about them are also bad.
This incident has finally woken me up. To action? Yet to be determined. But I'm not changing the channel on this one. I'm ashamed that I've changed the channel up to this point.

For me, it was Philando Castile, but yeah, this is an actual problem. It's more than just a few bad apples.
The institution seems to attract too many of the wrong element, which really isn't surprising. If you give a position authority and make it available to corrupt people who would misuse authority, they're going to pursue that position.
As a non racist white person.......everytime this crap happens I just think, "well fuck, I am going to look racist/white again for the next few months."
As for the incident, I have seen the 2 videos...what happened between the 2? Likely this rogue cop instigated some sort of resisting from the guy and he pushed back a little, and the cop decided to restrain him in a way to really harm him. Hell by the look on the cops face, it looked like he knew he was killing him.
So does he get off with lesser charge if the guy resisted?
I've often said if you just don't resist, there wont be an issue. But, Im not sure how legit that is anymore. When there is no threat (like this, Garner, etc) I just dont see how its anything but cops trying to inflict pain.
And cops trying to show who has the power.

Insert every facepalm pic ever made.
Lol, only Spock could make this about him.

Kind of defeats the purpose of complaining about police brutality.

I think about this, too. What kind of person stands by and lets this happen? It’s incredulous to me. Actions similar to this, when I was teaching, happened often. (And I’m talking about those knowing things being done that should not be and saying/doing nothing)
So I just watched the video. Sickening. I’m proud of the people who tried to help. And how the fuck was the guy supposed to get up and get in the car? 🤦
Nothing in any way acceptable what that officer did....he should rot in hell.
I feel this is a safe place for me to ask this. I’m confused about the rage a bit. Any cop killing anyone is awful obviously. Aren’t more white people killed by cops than any other race? I’m ignorant on this....someone kindly help me out. My FB is blown up talking about white cops murdering black people. If they are only killing black people I get it, but numbers I saw show way more white people are killed by cops. I get this particular individual one and there have been several others in recent time.

I thought that, too, reading his post. What an incredibly dumb fucking post. And it barely made any sense.

That convo will go like this: yes more white people are killed, but blacks are a smaller part of the population, but they commit more crimes, but they only get arrested for more crimes bc of racism... no way to prove any of the last part

Apparently, if you're a white guy holding a regular, non-cop job in Ohio and a white cop does something like this in a completely different state, that is reason to be really nervous about how racist or not you are. For reasons, I guess. I mean, if my reaction to this killing was "OMG! I'm not racist, but people are gonna think I am now that this happened!!!!", my guess is that people might have reason to call into question just how "non-racist" I actually am.
Never heard of this news source but it’s a video. Interesting statements. I think it’s gonna be hard to prove anything above 3rd degree homicide. City probly gonna burn.
A lot of the time these officer involved deaths are portrayed on social media in an incredibly biased way that fail to portray the full picture of the situation at hand.
This isn't one of those times.
Officer deserves his day in court and he should spend the rest of his life behind bars.
That all being said, what drives me up a wall when news like this comes out is reading the dumbass twitter/facebook posts implying that these two cops are representative of how most/all officers would handle that situation and start throwing out random statistics like officer involved deaths.
Are there bad apples in law enforcement? Absolutely. That can be said of any profession and it's probably unavoidable.
Are there a disproportionate amount of bad apples in law enforcement? Probably. They have perceived "power" above people, that's going to go to some of their heads, no matter how wrong it seems on the surface.
However, the nature of their profession means that they are significantly more likely to have to get into a physical altercation with someone being a fuckhead. People on drugs/alcohol acting erratically, people who don't want to be arrested, etc could all lead to an officer getting into a physical altercation with someone. Basically every other profession doesn't have that risk of "okay, I have to throw down and get cuffs on this guy/gal". Hell, most professions probably don't even involve laying a hand on another person. A police officer is likely to do that multiple times daily.
I'm not saying that accidental deaths are acceptable because they are not, but their profession is going to have a disproportionate amount of injury/deaths because of the dumb shit they deal with day to day.

I mean we literally watched the cop suffocate the man for 8 min, on tape. What other evidence could there be?

I don’t disagree with you, which is why I’m shocked it was said on TV. Even if it’s possible stfu so you don’t burn down another part of the city.

Some professions don't get to have bad apples, and when your job involves other people's lives, you certainly shouldn't have a disproportionate amount of them.
