Again, it's already a done deal. China "owns" the WHO. What do you want done about it? Please don't generalize, what specifically should we do?

Oh. Well for 1. Don't pull out of it. 2. Dangle the idea that we will increase funding or grants if certain reforms are achieved. Work with European allies to block any attempts by China to strong arm certain things and pledge to walk back/ reform the issues we have learned from the last 6 months. Right now we are just abdicating American leadership on it and walking away instead of working to fix the solution. It is not easy, but needed.

Interesting. In Maryland, Gov. Hogan's briefing was always quick, usually just 30 mins, maybe more if he had a new policy change. The numbers were given and then questions were asked.

Cool. Man, you just love China taking over more and more of the international institutions and programs. You do know the U.S. created a lot of these post WWII and they were instrumental in promoting pro-western values and science during the Cold War? Now, if we just throw them to China, we are just throwing to China the ability to control their version of values, science, and the international community? I know you say screw them, but in the long game, this may be a dumb play. 

Who's to say all of our traditional allies will now shift to China over us in the coming years?

With what money?  Are we just going to pretend there is no real value in money anymore?
 

Did you know that if you're in the hospital for something else, get a covid test and test positive, you're now counted in covid hospitalizations? If you test positive for antibodies, you're counted in positive cases. Also, when DeWine gives the "reported deaths" number each day, those deaths could have happened back in March and were just now reported? That number doesn't mean there have been that many deaths in the last 24 hours.

Just something to keep in mind as numbers are reported.

The numbers that are being used havent been reflective of what is acutally happening on the ground for along time.  We were supposed to fear the curve for along time because hospitals couldnt handle it....never heard of anyplace in the country that couldnt handle cases.

THis uptick recently is likely just more testing is catching more people.

There's all that, and then I have a theory that herd immunity might be a lot lower than people think.  I've seen that idea floated before, but it would explain why states with lower case rates are seeing an increase in case count with the same sort of re-opening conditions as, say, Ohio.

People are freaking out about Florida - it's per capita case count is almost identical to Ohio.  Going in the opposite direction, but "spiking" mainly because the lockdowns don't prevent infections they only delay it.

There's a lot of this out there which muddies up the waters.  To me, it's the nature of the lack of understanding of COVID when compared to viruses or conditions that have been around for much longer, and about which much more is known for certain.  I guess it's in our nature to want to bring measurements to something this uncertain and "the numbers" are how we do it.  In Alabama, we're hearing a lot about the "spike" in positive cases.  But that only stands to reason based on more testing and the fact that people aren't sequestered any longer.  There is an "uptick" in hospitalizations.  But then we learn that some of these are older cases reclassified and others are people who were initially admitted into the hospital for other reasons than COVID.  I don't think it's nefarious.  I just think it shows how we still lack a lot of collective knowledge of this particular virus.  In my opinion, the only route forward is to take precautions on an individual basis and wait for it to work itself through the population.  That was going to happen regardless of staying inside or not.

Flying family down there for $120 round trip/ticket (American Airlines, not some bargain airline like Spirit) and staying at a really nice hotel right on the beach for free from hotel points for traveling for work.

 In my opinion, the only route forward is to take precautions on an individual basis and wait for it to work itself through the population.  That was going to happen regardless of staying inside or not.  

Right.  Originally the lockdowns were to keep the hospitals from being overburdened (no expert ever claimed this thing could be eradicated by sheltering in place).

Then when we prepared to start re-opening, they said there could be isolated lockdowns or other measures to deal with hotspots.  So all this hand-wringing over nothing - if the hospitals start getting crowded, you'll have to shut some things down again.

But IMO it was a mistake not to require masks and social distancing in public (I mean indoors, grocery, places like that).  People could have chosen to do that on their own, but of course people who aren't terribly worried about getting it don't care.

All i know is that Miami Beach better be open come mid August. Flights so cheap right now couldn't pass it up. It's kind of amazing that all you've cared about this entire time are your family vacations. I believe it was a cruise at first and now it's Miami Beach. An airport/plane and FL are the last two places you'll catch me in the near future lol.

We're going somewhere in mid-July, and I'm still taking my canoe trip in Minnesota in late-August.

We went to Michigan last year and enjoyed it, not sure I really want to go back this year, though. We might try to find cheap flights somewhere, I was looking into Maine the other day.

Traveling at all would make me nervous, but I'm well aware that I'm more cautious than most. That said, taking a canoe trip in the wilderness is a lot different than getting on a plane and going to Miami Beach. But everyone is free to make their own choices!

This shit isn't going away.  People are going to get it.  These organizations realize this, right? 

Came to Denver to get away for a few weeks. My sister lives here and my parents are posted up in an RV park near her house. Working out of a camper is not the best, but the nearby outdoor perks makes up for it.

Also, got tested after we landed. Negative, antibodies too. I wanted those damn antibodies.

Love Denver. Might consider it as an option for July. Did you do much in the city? 

I haven’t even gone downtown yet. I’m north in Wheat Ridge.
 

Went to Joybird Brewery last weekend. Needed a reservation to sit out on the street to drink beer. That was odd. 
 

I’m just going to do as much outdoor stuff as I can until I leave. This is my first time here in the summer aside from my sisters wedding which was a short trip. Endless bike paths are in my backyard so I’ve been doing lots of that. Just road to Golden and back. I should have come out here weeks ago. 
 

As far as Covid, I’m assuming Ohio is similar to here. People still taking precautions, lots of masks. Practically everything is open.
