Now that it’s legal, figured this was as good a time as any to start this thread back up!

How does ruling this affect gambling? I assume it's up to each state to decide if they will allow it or not, or can we all just start gambling online?

My quick reading of the case is it allows sports betting outside the state of Nevada. But, each state must pass laws to allow there to be sports betting. New Jersey already has that law now. So, if you are in Jersey, you can place a wager in a few months. Other states need to pass similar laws. I read Delaware, Penn, and Mississippi have laws waiting in the wings.
I'm guessing for states that already allow casinos, you will see a race to allow sports gambling and allowance of online sports betting. I'm hoping Maryland passes a law pretty soon, so I can make some wagers at Maryland Live or the MGM at National Harbor.
This is a very good day for legalized sports wagering.

Basically, once legislation is in place in a given state, it will be like Nevada. Licensed sports books/online wagering sites can accept bets. No longer will you need to go through a bookie or head to Vegas. I’d assume every state will legalize it, but some are definitely closer than others. Most probably over a year away from being able to implement.

Some places in New Jersey will be ready to take bets really soon. William Hill has been building a sportsbook at the Monmouth Park horse track and they are expecting to begin taking wagers within the next couple of weeks.
Ohio sucks on this type of thing and will probably fall in the class of 'just before Utah' to legalize it'.
I've already pulled all my money out of my offshore accounts well in advance of this ruling. Even the reputable ones have a risk of just closing down and you have no recourse.
They say this will be the end of the street bookie...that is not the case at all. Unless these places start offering credit (they won't), there is always going to be room for the street bookie that will take a bet without cash upfront.
Will be interesting to see how fast Ohio moves. There is a ton of money to be made but people are so stupid. How long did it take to get casinos? We are still way behind on marijuana. I'm guessing it will be another 2 years, at least, before you can make a legal sports wager in Ohio.

You would think Gilbert has been trying to plan for this for awhile. I know it takes Legislation first, but shit he should have been lobbying them for years in anticipation.

Does this mean Draft Kings ads will be shown during every commercial break again?

It will be interesting to see what happens. Draft Kings and Fanduel already have announced they will be operating online sportsbooks. All the big hitters like MGM and Caesars Entertainment will be in the game. Despite not having properties in Ohio, I could see a company like MGM pushing an online product in every state and they would be in a position to offer rewards/comps that could be used in Vegas, etc. Most people think brick and mortar sportsbooks but the reality is that 80% or more of wagers will probably be placed online. Hell, I was in Vegas for March Madness and was placing the bets on my phone through the app instead of waiting in line at the sportsbook.
Hopefully this isn't something that will have to go on a ballot because I could see Ohioans somehow shooting it down.

If it is "legal" in New Jersey, can you place bets from Ohio into that online sportsbook?

No. They will have location blockers setup. Just like I can't make a bet on the MGM sportsbook app that I downloaded and used when I was in Vegas while I am in Ohio.

Alabama definitely will not legalize sports gambling anytime soon. They still haven't passed laws to legalize DFS or a lottery. But hopefully some place close to me (probably Mississippi) will have it soon.

Here's a decent column concerning the basics about the decision and things that will potentially be affected by it.

...not going to happen in Maryland for a while. It would take a special assembly being called for the State constitution to be changed. That's not going to happen in an election year. The earliest MAryland can get a referendum on the ballot is in 2020. You're better off contributing to the success of the "Slots For Tots" effort for the foreseeable future.

I just can't get into betting. I HATE losing more than I like winning, so the thought of losing money on the regular gives me major anxiety. I'm glad that it's becoming legal in more places, though. You degenerates should have the freedom to win or lose all you want.

I’m pretty solid on golf, because the books offer some bets that you can hammer with research. Picking a winner is tough as hell, but a single win (DJ netting me nearly $400 last week) allows for like 3 weeks of losing and still being even. It’s not like a typical sport where the odds are essentially double the bet. In golf, if you hit a winner, your looking at 10x-40x your bet. DJ last week was 25x my bet...

That's not bad, and golf is definitely something I could probably do well with.
What kind of other bets can you make?

Golf also offers E/W betting, which is I believe the only sport outside Horseracing to do so. It’s a nice little hedge within the bet.

No. But I use a bookie, so probably won't really be much different for me.

Your bookie doesn’t charge you? I used offshore, but the offerings weren’t great, and the threat of shutting down was always prevalent. Used a bookie for a month, but he took a cut of every bet placed. Gave that up quickly.

No, he doesn’t charge me. Can set you up with my guy if you’re interested. Uses Venmo for payment, it’s real nice. Settles every Tuesday if you’re up/down a chosen amount.

What site are you using for your sports betting now? Just like the rivers casino sportsbook app or something? I haven’t looked into this at all

Yeah, the Bet Rivers. I can’t find the app for iPhone (they say it’s released but I think it’s just android). But the Mobile site is pretty user friendly.
Hoping DK/Fanduel find that loophole soon. Don’t like that Rivers doesn’t offer cash-outs before the bet is settled. Would’ve been able to “win” a few others that finished a spot away from cashing my bet last week.
