Sick decision by Franklin to go for it on 4th and 1 on your own 20. Jackass. I hope they lose.

Insane, especially how game was going and weather

No. Do not get rid of auto bids. The whole point is not to just get the teams who we think are the best. The point is to finally give everyone a shot and settle it on the field. If you don’t win your fucking conference, you have no argument. Of course there are teams who will be better every year than some who got left. I don’t care. They had a shot, and didn’t capitalize. We’re arguing over teams who are all frauds and don’t have a real shot at the title — but they did what they had to do to earn the chance to prove people wrong (so far, 0/2, but whatever).

Neither of the frauds were conference winners.

No, but that wasn’t the point of that particular argument.

They did however have the best resumes of the teams in question. SMU made the title game and Indiana lost out on a chance because of tiebreaker rules.

People keep saying to make the regular season matter, and this is doing just that. The simple answer is stop losing to shit teams if you want a chance. And definitely don’t do it twice!

It’s going to suck if all these games are blowouts. Texas and Clemson isn’t there yet but it could be soon.

8 Teams Playoff. I don’t care if you win your conference. You could win your conference and have 3 losses doesn’t mean you should be in the playoffs.

They should just put the top 8 teams on the same field and let them fight to the death to determine the champion. Last man standing also wins heisman

He was in the air when hit by the defender….is he supposed to hold him up? Awful call and ridiculous no call on the PI in the end zone on the crazy INT

Feels like things are scripted

Why the fuck is everyone on the sideline and field motivated now?

Using their athletes, novel idea

YES IT DOES! Otherwise, back to BCS. Seriously. No reason for anything. 12 teams gives the chance for teams on the fringe to prove it. Yes, we may go 0/5000 on those games, still better than an argument of a team we KNOW isn’t good enough like Alabama vs a team with an argument like Indiana.

Here is my reasoning. Indiana lost by 10 (but it wasn’t a 10 pt game). There is a clear argument against Alabama making it.  If Alabama made it, and got smoked by ND last night, the narrative of Indiana being left out would’ve been much stronger. Bama lost 3 conference games. They are CLEARLY not good enough to win the SEC let alone a title. Indiana lost 1 conference game, on the road, to OSU. There is a distinct possibility they COULD be good enough (yes, not reality, but a hypothetical). I’d rather 4 of those teams get a shot every single year, deal with 4 blowouts, and move on with the real teams in the next round.

So, is Tennessee a fluke that should not have been there? Looked as good as Indiana or SMU.

Right? Tennessee were frauds. They got smacked way worse than Indiana did a month ago. This is why you can’t, imo, go by who you think is good or whatever. Just take those who earned it. We have no idea who or what conference is good. They don’t do enough crossing with OOC matchups. Settle it on the field with those who earned — frauds or not.

Home teams went 4-0 with average margin of victory 20 points. Southern teams traveling north did even worse.

Man, did Herbstreit have a burr in his ass about Ohio State this week.  First he called out Day and Kelly for to contacting him to congratulate him on his son accepting a scholarship that UM.  Then Saturday he spends the first quarter going on about how many Tennessee fans came to the Shoe.  Then he spends the fourth quarter bashing Ohio State fans, saying a bunch of them are lunatic fringe, blah, blah, blah (same stuff he’s been repeating for 25 years).

Dude, we get it - you’re not a homer.  You sound like a bitter old man though.

Why can’t it be that conference champs get an automatic bids, but not an automatic bye at least?

I was at the game, but caught what he said today. There was a ton of Tennesse fans in the Shoe. Probably 30%, which is an insane for a fanbase as proud as Ohio St to allow Tenn that many folks in. I was pissed off seeing that much orange, and seems like Ohio State was as well.

I do agree with Herbie on the very vocal part of the fanbase that wants Day fired. It's so stupid. The gameday piece of the fans that said even if they win the national title, with a loss to Mich, it is an asterisk season, is a loser and a joke.

As an alum, I can't stand most of the fanbase as they are fairweather, bitchy, and think the world revolves around the Michigan game. It did in the past, but not now.

Ohio State doesn't need to treat the Michigan game as the main goal in the season...it's just the most important regular season game. But, the new standard is how far they make it in the playoff and comparing themselves to Georgia, Texas, Oregon, etc. Titles mean more than beating Mich.

The fire Day crowd was so stupid and they deserve every bit of ripping by Herbie.

Last night was awesome and one of the best games I have been at at the Shoe. The SEC chants were great and the OSU PA playing rocky top, followed by hey hey goodbye at the end was chefs kiss.

BTW, I love Ohio State's chances against Oregon in a rematch.

There’s a part of every fanbase that’s like this.  Having lived in Alabama for six years, I can attest to the insanity of some Alabama and Auburn fans.

That said, Herbstreit has spent an inordinate amount of time over many years of making sure to emphasize how big the Ohio State “lunatic fringe” is according to him.  He delivers it as an authority on the subject.  When he does an Alabama blowout or a Texas blowout or a Georgia blowout, he does not spend the entirety of the fourth quarter disparaging the school’s fanbase by giving airtime to the vocal minority of nuts - who are just as present there as they are here.

BTW, Herbstreit had no problem offering his unsolicited butt hurt that Day didn’t personally congratulate him for his son’s accepting a UM offer.  Why he’d expect that, I have no idea.  But it’s okay for him to be critical, just no one else.

There were a lot of Tennessee fans there.  But it was a home crowd for sure.
