What say you? Are we looking at a quarantine soon, or is this all a conspiracy by the grocery industrial complex?

What do you mean the entire US? As in the fedral government mandates it? I doubt it.

I see certain states and local areas doing it.

Either, or. Being as this is an Ohio based site, and given the recent estimates of 100k infected and doubling every 6 days, you can answer based on Ohio vs the entire US.

I can see the large cities in Ohio being quarantined sure, especially the big three.

I'm guessing I'll be stuck in my house for 3-4 weeks in the near future. I do live in one of the big 3.

I don't think it will happen as a government mandate nationally. I could see certain cities doing it though. Currently where I live there isn't too much commotion about it yet.

By quarantine, if you mean everyone is banned from leaving their house?  No.  I think cancelling the large indoor events (sports, concerts, etc) and closing schools and colleges for 3 weeks will be more than sufficient.

The events have brought to mind the Tom Clancy novel "Executive Orders", where a beefed-up Iran unleashed a nasty Ebola strain in the U.S, and President Ryan issued a nationwide quarantine and ban on all travel.  We're not even close to that scenario where Covid-19 is concerned.

I planned based on "yes" for at least a week or two, but honestly have no idea.

My decision was simply based on how things have escalated from fans at games to no fans at games to games being canceled to school being shut down for three weeks to no gatherings of 100+ over the course of a day or two. It's not unreasonable to think if it's escalated that quickly, it's going to escalate even more.

not immediately, but yeah. italy, korea, china have all successfully combatted this thing with quarantines, there is no way to avoid it at this point. luckily our stable genius will be quicker to act than the italians, but that deadline is fast approaching. seems like much of europe is going the same direction and will similarly change course or suffer.

I assume since it was thought about and put onto here that it is a definite at some point.

I worry we shut down virtually everything big for these 3 weeks and when it’s time to return everything is still in limbo and they shut it down much longer.

If we are forced to stay in our house will they be bringing a cart by to pick up our dead?

They're currently advising to use the deceased in a pagan ritual in order for his/her spirit to protect the survivors from becoming infected.

Fearmongering at it's finest, probably because people would just ignore it otherwise.  Trying to get the effect of a quarantine without actually doing it (and all the problems associated with it).  I guess the hope is a panic caused from such irresponsibility will save more people than it kills.

- Italy has been having all kinds of problems with coronavirus for over a month.  With a population of 60M, it has 12,462 cases as of yesterday.  Ohio has a population of about 12M.

- The hospitalization rate for serious cases is @ 15-20%.  This would mean about 15k people in Ohio would be or would have been hospitalized for coronavirus.

- The mortality rate is @ 3-4%...so with 100k cases that would mean at least a few thousand deaths already in Ohio, versus.....4?

Now maybe he means there are a bunch of asymptomatic people that will never even be tested.  That could easily be several hundred people, but 100k?!?

DeWine said today that "its everywhere" and "many cases".........which means, there are 100,000+.

I would love it everyone just stayed away form everything for a few weeks.  Get this shit over with

Gut, I think he meant 100,000 are infected already since you don’t show symptoms right away. I guess we will no in another 4-5 days what the number actually was. Since by then, people infected already should show symptoms.

There have been 135k cases reported GLOBALLY.  Do you really think little 'ol Ohio has 100k cases, more than Wuhan (which has a similar population, but much more dense)?

And why would Ohio be special when there are several "hotspots" in the US already?  That would mean we'd be looking at several million infected already in the US in a few days.

I say he has no fucking clue and is irresponsibly trying to alarm people.  It's a guess, and by every objective measure looks like a really, really bad one.  And it could double every 6 days - well, ok, where's the 50,000 current cases in Ohio?  Where are the related 5000+ hospitalizations and hundreds of deaths?

LMFAO - Iran, population 80M, has 10k cases....and people there are licking religious monuments as a test of faith.

The mortality rate is estimated at 1% by most experts I’ve seen, dunno where y’all are getting 3% to 4%. Maybe of confirmed cases, but there are obviously a ton of unconfirmed.
I also hope the public understands that since the CDC is dumb, now that testing can happen, a ton of people are going to start testing positive. It doesn’t mean it is new cases, just now finally getting tested. And I also don’t get the comparison to Italy in actual numbers, bc the US obv has a shit ton more people. If they were similar in percentages then ok.

That's of confirmed cases.  In South Korea where they've done more testing, it's quite a bit lower, maybe like 0.7%.

The comparison to Italy was simply to refute the claim there are already 100k cases in Ohio.  Italy, by most accounts, has horribly managed the process and now has like 15k cases...with 5X the population of Ohio.

For Dewine's claim of 100k cases to be true, this would have to be no worse than a mild flu season with like only 1 in 100 cases being diagnosed.  That's obviously not the case.  Either that, or Dewine knows something that has been withheld from the public.

LOL, for what it's worth, Dewine was on Tucker Carlson with his Sec. Health.  And he let her walk back the "100k" comment pretty much all the way.  Basically admitted she royally screwed up, spun it as "I was very tired and didn't communicate effectively and was misunderstood", immediately transitioning to looking at the models and empirical data and the first community transmission in Ohio, they expect a spike from the few hundred cases they are monitoring.

Now Dewine shouldn't have to fact check his advisers, but that's an unbelievably ignorant mistake for a Gov and his staff to make.  If you knew any facts, at all, about this then "100k" didn't come close to passing the smell test.
