A Few Good Men
Only get to submit one. Criteria: compelling, no wasted scenes, great acting, you'd watch it 1,000 times.
Mine is Fargo. It's a World Series perfect pitched game 7.

A Few Good Men
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Godfather
The Godfather seems to be widely considered as Top-5 by many sources.
But for me it's Braveheart.
Majority of "best ever" seem to be early 70's or sooner. I'm sure nostalgia (and 35mm film) have a lot to do with it. I wonder what our generation will rank as the best 30 years from now?
side note: I still think a lot of the old 35mm films look more realistic (occasional static or glitch aside). Tarantino gets it. To be fair, I haven't seen an 8K, or even HDR 4K, production.
Red october
Shawshank
Die Hard for action.
Dumb and Dumber for comedy.
Inglourious Basterds for overall.

For me, that’s accurate. It has a very compelling and awesome villain, which is priority 1. After that, it has a great plot and amazing setting for different types of scenes within the same place. Sprinkle in the perfect amount of 1-liners and you have what every action movie should strive for.
Back to the Future.

The irony here is that my wife says the two movies I watch over and over again are "Fletch" and "Hunt For Red October".

It's damn close.
posted by geeblockI like that, too, but I it's not perfect for me. I'm having trouble thinking of any movie for this thread.

It is hard. I have 4 or 5 other candidates that I think could apply. I think Shawshank as already mentioned was one
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Interstellar
Forrest Gump
The Dark Knight
Tommy Boy

I am with you, Good Will Hunting is one of the best movies of all time.
My top 4 are probably (in no particular order):
Good Will Hunting (Robin Williams won an Oscar for this, and 100% deserved it. As funny as he was, he was WAY better acting in serious roles...like Dead Poets Society)
Braveheart
Shawshank Redemption
Saving Private Ryan
Best Comedy:
Happy Gilmore (ok, not on the same level but probably the best comedy ever made...lol)
Best Action:
Have to agree with Die Hard.
Best single "moment" in cinematic history:
The "circles" scene in Avengers: Endgame. If you were there opening night the theaters were seriously like a Super Bowl with the cheering. It was amazing.
