When you're chilling out with music, or working out with music, or driving with music or however you listen to music, what sort of stuff do you prefer listening to?

For me, a decent bit of metal (both modern and older) from most sub-genres. Kind of fallen away from the death/black metal over the past few years, but listen to most other stuff.

Also a lot of classic rock, NWOBHM and other stuff from the 60s-80s. Pretty much anything along those lines, I'll listen to at least a couple times. That also includes modern groups trying to recapture those sounds. I'll at least give them a try to see how well they match up with the classic bands.

Bluegrass

Americana - the illegitimate child of country music and currently the "real" country music as opposed to the "pop-with-a-twang" crap that is called country.

60s-early 80s rock.

Forever I've been classic rock but the last few yrs I shifted gears from hating country to actually preferring it.

Guess I got tired of the oldies and new rock just sucked so country won out

Bluegrass, typically. A very small sliver of country music, though certainly nothing from the likes of Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, et al. Classic rock is good, too.

The two main groups I listen are:

  • Classic Rock
  • 90’s Alternative and Rock

Occasionally I’ll through in a little bit of Pop music when we have people over or whatever. But I can only stand a few of the current pop stars.

Depends.  I float between socially conscious rap, grunge rock, and opera.

I was probably 50-50 rock/country until about 4 years ago...been probably 95% alternative since. Like BRF, Alt Nation has been at the top of my car radio list.

Country. Occasionally, I'll turn on some 80s stuff.

Typically keep the dial on Sirius Octane, Hair Nation (80's hair metal) or Liquid Metal (hardcore stuff). I just laugh because my girlfriend is always bitching because at any time you'll find a Metallica song playing on at least 3 stations. Mostly metal but will listen to other harder music.

It all depends on mood, but one genre I could never get into is country.

I lied.  Granted I was drunk for 95% of the trip, but when I was in Nashville I enjoyed the live country music.  I felt like the younger artists there had a hybrid style of country/rock and they also covered songs from other genres.

Older country and new artists that stick to the classic style of country are solid. The new mainstream pop country is terrible.

I'm mostly underground minimal house and techno, but I like a few indie bands like The War on Drugs. Also older hip hop and I'll occasionally listen to rappers from the A$AP crew.

Agreed it depends on the move. My favorite and most listened are the blues. Clapton, BB King, Albert King, Gary Clarke Jr., etc. I also love groups like the Black Keys and that blues/ rock mix.

I listen to XM Octane a lot of the drive home so I enjoy hard rock. My favorite groups now are Bad Wolves and Thrice.

I enjoy bluegrass and blues country, like Stapleton, Brothers Osbourne, and Sturgill Simpson. Those guys are just blues with a twang.

Depending on the mood, I also listen to old school Hip Hop, the new Rock the Bells XM channel, which used to be Backspin. My favorite hip hop go to is often Tribe Called Quest and 2Pac.

Just to hear on the radio I don’t enjoy a lot of different types of music....but to see a singer or group live and on stage I almost always enjoy them. Don’t know if it’s just more personal or maybe a better appreciation of their talents.
