So omicron is now 73% of new cases in the US.

I've read about it being 4X more infectious than Delta, and that it was doubling every 2-3 days, but the numbers are still pretty mindblowing seeing it in real time.

My friend group just did a birthday dinner in an outdoor igloo at the Royce on Saturday.  Dinner for 12 and they were playing board games. 5 people from that group tested positive today. 3 of them had covid last year

Feels like pro sports going to get unraveled soon. NHL already paused games til the 27th (or something like that). I wonder if we’ll continue getting Tuesday NFL games for these last few weeks.

And college basketball is getting hit, too, with a lot of cancellations. Only really big game taken out was Ohio State-Kentucky, I think -- mainly because the majority of games played around this time are name programs against low-level teams and there are few marquee match-ups. But I can see that changing after the holidays when league play really gets going.

Chiefs have been hit hard with I think 5(?) on the list, including Kelce and Hill, and likely more to come.

Cut the crowds in half or whatever, but I see zero reason why sports have to go on hiatus again.  A lot of teams obviously relaxed or ignored protocols, which is pretty damn understandable, but we saw last year it can work.

Granted, not sure how well masks and distancing continue to work when the contagiousness is ramping up like this.

Friend's kid at MSU is heading into second half of his sophomore year and hasn't had an in-person class yet after 3 semesters.  Not the case with everyone, but his classes have all been remote.  Can't imagine how badly that sucks.  These kids deserve a refund of some tuition because no one signed-up to pay $30k to take classes on a computer.

I really hope we don't blindly shut everything down again without having much clue of what this wave will look like.

There’s no way they’d go on any lengthy hiatus again I would think. NFL cut back on testing vaccinated players so I wonder if after a couple weeks the Covid list will shrink. Probably only a matter of time before the NBA follows suit. Just seems so stupid to have asymptomatic, vaccinated players to be missing time.

I just laugh my butt off that we're still canceling things because of this.

Jan. 20, 2021 was such a great day - an adult moved back into the White House, and the Covid nightmare finally ended thanks to much needed leadership

This variant is super serious, so serious we are going to wait 2 weeks to implement these rules and make it applicable to children who have almost no risk to it.

I see where the “new” Covid pill might drop today.  And you wonder why the fear porn is so high.

Got to make their money and then we will stop freaking out about the common cold

She should probably worry more about the south side being a perpetual war zone.

Will store ransackers need to show proof of vaccine before they “smash and grab”?

It's pretty incredible he was gifted multiple vaccines and we are still seeing public servants recyling policies that didn't work the past 2 years.

Asymptomatic people need to stop being tested.  In fact, mildly symptomatic people need to stop being tested as well.   It just feeds into this dumbass hysteria.  Vaccines are available and now pfizers antiviral pill is approved.   There are many options to treat this shit now.  Time to move on.

Biden just punted Covid as a problem the federal government can’t solve and states need to get it done.

Unreal.
