Do political figures ever take responsibility anymore though? At the very least they can just lie and blame someone else (previous administration, Democrats, republicans, etc) and their die hard fan bases will stick by them. Just seems like waiting for them to admit they got something wrong isn’t even an option anymore.
That's pretty much it. Saying "As a country, we've had 20 years of failure over there and my moves really topped off that shit sundae with two, no, THREE extra scoops of shit!" isn't going to fire up the base as much as stating that the last guy made the deal to exit, which also freed a bunch of Taliban prisoners who are now running things over there. While completely ignoring minor details like how you moved the last guy's date to leave up a few months, but never made a plan to extract people, goods, weaponry, etc. in anything resembling a competent or organized manner. Meaning that he went ahead with a flawed plan simply because it was set in place by the last guy despite the fact he's not been shy about overturning other stuff by that last guy.
But, hey, if you're part of his base and you bring up those minor details, then you're totally taking the side of the other guy and a traitor, so, yeah, they're not gonna do that.
Like a tweet I read today said: "If you ever feel useless, just remember, USA took 4 Presidents, trillions of dollars, millions of lives and 20 years to replace Taliban with Taliban."
EDIT: Then again, the sad thing is that tactic gets used because it works. All you have to do is look on Twitter and see tons of people fired up making this a pure Trump vs. Biden thing where one guy has to be 100% wrong, as opposed to an "everyone fucked up in their own way" thing. Which is why nothing will ever improve.
