The thing about the student suspended is that he opted to do something that wasn't a choice.

The choices were either be in the walkout or go to an alternative study hall.  He refused to do either. 

Too bad he was not allowed to be in math class, learning a subject that taxpayers are paying for.

Yes and I'm guessing that the school suspended all classes.  But your question is one that should be answered by someone, whether it's the news reporter or the school itself.

A kid shouldn’t have to go to study hall during his regularly scheduled class to pander to the loser kids. This is ridiculous.

Was the teacher not there because the liberal admin. wanted the teachers to join the walk out?

Should the students who walk out of school, directing anger at lawmakers over lack of gun reform, be suspended or given detentions?  

No. Fuck administrators with little man syndrome that sit around and worry about rules and punishments for the pettiest shit all day.

It’s not like this is a weekly occurrence, and of course there’s the double standard that it was OK when this stuff happened in the 60’s-70’s and now it’s completely out of line.

Their primary responsibility is to the students. If the circumstance suggests that the teachers stay in the classroom with the majority of students, that's where they belong. They can express their political views on their time, not mine.

I don't know if you are getting my point.  I'm saying that it probably wasn't a choice given to the teachers.  The administration said no classes during that time period.  Either participate in the walkout, or help monitor the alternative study hall.

We are taking students on a protest march that supports the political agenda we adhere to.  If you do not want to come with us then go to study hall and work on math (that we are supposed to be teaching you, but cannot due to our taxpayer-funded absence).

Also teachers: It's the day before Christmas break, watch this movie. 

We are talking about a few minutes here. It's not like the walk out is an entire day. Good schools, teachers and administrators will try to use this as a learning opportunity, not as vehicle for punishment.

Also- it is not fair to compare school to work. Very different dynamics.
