Wife said there were posts on facebook about downtown was shut down.  I am not going down to see for myself.  Dont care that much

DC is nuts. The National Guard and federal police just dispersed a peaceful protest with tear gas and rubber bullets. 

Even the local news anchors were thrown off saying this is really aggressive and goes beyond anything that normally happens during peaceful protests. 

My daughter just came home and they are arresting people.  She said "THey are throwing the people on the ground"

That was just insane. The ABC7 had one live where the cop smashed his shield into the camera. Was going in for more, when the others kind of got in his way and directed them to just move elsewhere.

I mean if you are one who fears federal overreach, holy shit. What happened in DC was the feds coming in over the top and squashing a peaceful protest with aggressive tactics.

More or less.  It was sort of set up as a foundational reason the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.  In effect, it'd be like saying, "Because a well-regulated militia is necessary for a free state, the right to bear arms shall not be infringed."

So you're right; it doesn't make the latter contingent on the former.  The former is why, in their view, it is necessarily a right they were going to protect explicitly in the Bill of Rights.

Frankly, though, even if you wanted to make the claim that a well-regulated militia was necessary for any right to bear arms, how does one form a well-regulated militia without arms?  Arms are, in effect, necessary for any such militia.  Otherwise, it's basically an outdoors club.

It amazes me that people still try to use the militia angle when one of the most important landmark decisions regarding the 2A is Heller vs. DC, whose key finding is that the right to bear arms is an individual right.

That, the Minneapolis police shoting at people on their own porch, and Trump saying he will superceed the indivdual states if he wants is not a great time for democracy and a free country.

Seems like this would be going a little better if we had literally anyone else as President. 

Newark,Oh (my town) had 2 protests over the weekend and they were both very organized and respectful. There was very little police presence.

How many rounds did the cops fire at the SUV before they remembered they were using rubber bullets?

My town Jackson (pop ~ 6000) had 75 or  on testers today. Said completely non violent with a few red necks yelling that they were all white. Protestors I have on FB said it went well.
