Got divorced in '07 after about 5 years of marriage, although we'd been separated for a year or so before that. Don't know that there are funny stories about it. She got more selfish and a bit unstable, I didn't handle that so well, she started messing with hard drugs, we separated, I realized I liked not having her around, when she refused my terms (100% off the hard stuff and away from all her old friends who encouraged/did it), I spent the $$$ to end it and haven't had one day of looking back or regret. Or any of my shit or $$$ coming up missing, for that matter.

Same here as far as the money aspect went. I bought all of the furniture, TV, etc and was going to fight over it but my boss told me "just walk away....the peace you'll have from not being in that situation is way more valuable than any material item." I agreed.

Will hit 20 year this year.  Always listen and make sure she finishes first.

Yes, she should finish the dishes first before going to bed. (don't tell my wife I said that)

Not divorced, but I was in a long term relationship where we lived together for yrs that I got out. No funny stories unfortunately, we just weren't right for each other. Probably the hardest decisions I ever had to make, our lives were very intertwined obviously, thankfully no kids. I was very releived initially to remove the stress.

I was going to say I feel like most on OC have been in long term marriages.  Since most of you have sustained your marriages, how about  you all share your best practices lol?

This year I will have been together 29 years with my wife after dating her for 4.

THE "best practice" in my opinion is to choose carefully... very, very carefully.   Choosing the right girl will be the best/worst decision of your life.

Not my story, but a guy I went to high school with. Chuck was the biggest player I ever met. So smooth and I used to wish I had half of his game. He got married to a really nice girl, Nancy,  who had a great job and they had 2 kids. He never stopped cheating on Nancy. Finally he met Suzy, who "counseled" him that he should get divorced. He was sleeping with the Suzy too... So he divorces Nancy and marries Suzy. His kids go to the wedding and when it starts getting late his sister Amanda takes the kids back to Nancy's house. When Amanda comes back to the wedding, she says something vaguely nice about Nancy,  and Suzy gets PISSED and starts a fist fight with her because of it. Chuck grabs Suzy and pulls her away. A friend of mine, Tom grabs Amanda and takes her away from the wedding and they go out and continue to have a good time. A couple of hours later, Chuck calls Tom to tell him that on the limo ride back to the hotel Suzy was still pissed, grabbed a champagne bottle and started hitting Chuck in the head. He's a cop and doesn't want any kind of domestic abuse charge, so he tells the limo driver to stop. He grabs the box full of wedding presents, gets out of the limo and starts walking down the highway with the box under his arm. He wants to know if Tom can come get him. So Chuck gets divorce number 2...

(I added fake names because the story was too hard to follow without them)

I actually was able to follow all that.

Pretty happy that I have some brain cells left.

I was doing okay up to the point Amanda said something vaguely nice - who the heck was Amanda again?

The way I read it, it's pretty clear who she was.
