Reading the first few pages of this thread is pretty funny. Lot of freezing cold takes.

Headed off next Saturday for 10 days in Europe...not even packing hand sanitizer. Hell, I might even lick a few handrails while I'm there lol.

How was your visit to Europe?  I bet you saw all the sites.

Reading a July 1 target date for MLB....that sounds a bit lofty but that would be great

I mean, there has to be money to be made (somehow) for playing in an empty stadium, isn't there?  I'd assume tests will be readily available by then, so you just keep MLB teams quarantined, and you test them regularly?

So here in my county....Population 110,000.

We have 64 cases and 8 deaths.

42 cases are elderly people at 2 nursing facilities with all fatalities from 2 places,  the other 22 cases are all people associated with the 2 nursing homes.

The area would largely be spared if not for those two facilities. A lot of healthcare workers between here and Cincinnati are actually being furloughed/overstaffed because things are so down and this rush hasn’t yet hit.

Good news out of Italy:

April 4 (GMT)

  • 4805 new cases and 681 new deaths in Italy. The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care has declined for the first time since the beginning of the epidemic in Italy

The target of bringing down the reproductive number (R0) to 1 has been reached. Now the goal is to bring it below 1. Earlier in the epidemic, it was as high as 3. This value represents the average number of people to which a single infected person will transmit the virus. An epidemic with a reproductive number below 1 will gradually disappear

An estimated 30,000 lives have been saved as an effect of the lockdown measures, according to Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) [source] [source]

Yikes. Workers at the nursing homes or the elderly that reside there?

That Clay Travis dude is a bit of a weirdo, but he’s been tweeeting about Italy for the last couple weeks. Basically that they’re on their 13th straight day of declining confirmed cases. And something about deaths too but not sure if it’s declining confirmed deaths or what. Definitely some good news out of Italy.

Cuomo talks about the "apex" daily.

Now it's 4-8 days away. Assuming that means after that day, confirmed cases go down? Deaths? Or both?

I saw a stat that said 12% of deaths are due to the coronavirus itself. Basically that 88% of deaths were clients with a severe underlying health condition where the CV just “sped up” the process (sorry for the insensitivity). So if someone with a terminal illness gets CV and dies today versus some point in the next 12 months, does that still count as a confirmed CV death? And if so, isn’t that skewing the death numbers they’re reporting? I mean it’s obviously very sad, but is it really CV killing those people? I would guess on their death certificates it won’t say Cv, it’ll say lung cancer or whatever their condition was.
Or am I just very wrong here?

Dave Portnoy wannabe.

He isn't wrong though.  The % of daily positive cases from two weeks ago have gone done from 30% to now its hovering around 9-12%.

Unfortunately Italy's old population is getting hit and thus high death figures.  Last I saw the median age of people dying from this is 79 years old.  As cold as it might sound, death is not how you look at this for progress unfortunately.

Not to mention, the daily reported cases is simply who's going to get an actual test for this. If i'm feeling symptoms, and I'm "fine" at home just quarantining and being miserable with flu like symptoms but nothing severe, no way i'm going into the hospital or one of those testing centers. I'm just going to ride it out. So I probably have it, but the CDC won't know that. There are probably millions of those cases.

Pretty much every stat out there is extremely flawed.

There has to be a lot of that, especially in hot spots where hospitals are overrun. I know 3 people in that exact situation, only one was tested.

Video going around of a lady coming out of church saying that she doesn't believe she'll get CV because she's covered in Jesus's blood. It was a church in Ohio. That's why we're all going to be quarantined with no sports or entertainment for another 2-3 months. Idiots like this. Nice job Ohio!

Happening in the south too. Pastors in LA announcing they don't give a shit. Just saw they are supposed to run out of beds in a week. Not sure if that means the state as a whole or only New Orleans.
