Paper. I also do the inverted method.

Does the metal filter work well?

Yeah, if you buy the right one. I like the DISK ones.

What does the apple cider vinegar additive do for you?

I've heard it has detoxification elements (it's one of those additives that has a lot of rumored good effects, but little has been proven), so I figured it's one of those things that can't hurt and might even help, as long as it's used in moderation because it is pretty acidic. A little of that in a water along with some raw honey works for me.

I take a 30 oz yeti cup with me from the house at 630 and usually 930 or so my assistant refills it about half way up.  I drink it black and am not really particular what type of coffee..usually some type of breakfast blend.  I only drink coffee during the week and from august-may.  I wont have a cup during the summer.

I've been using this for cold brew. Works great, uses a lot of grounds though.

Regarding the thread topic, I'm coming up on year 34 coffee free.

I've been trying to cut back on the amount of coffee I've been drinking.  At one point, it was probably 7-10 12oz cups a day, which just seems like way too much.

I've been drinking way more water, and I've noticed that water first thing in the morning seems to help me wake up.  Anyone else ever notice that?

About a year ago I started drinking a glass or two of water first thing after waking.  Not sure about the waking up part, but it seems to stimulate my digestive system and help with metabolism, which is a must as I approach 60.  Plus I go out of my way to have a glass of water twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon.

Now I also drink a large glass of water just before bedtime - I seem to sleep better, and don't have to get up in the middle of the night to pee.

Drives my wife crazy.  She says if she has any water before 8 PM, she'll be up half the night.

Anyway, I'm at 2 or 3 mugs of coffee each day, set my Keurig to 10 oz each.

I drink water when I'm not boozin' it up and, yeah, I do notice that a bit. At least it gets me moving when I wake up, whether I was drinking the night before or not.

Sorry, but these two comments don't seem to make sense...you drink a large glass of water before you go to bed and you don't have to pee in the middle of the night, and if your wife drinks water before 8:00 she can't sleep?

Makes perfect sense.

He is able to down a glass of water before going to bed, and as a bonus it doesn't make him get up in the middle of the night.

His wife, on the other hand, is unable to drink water after 8pm, else she WILL need to get up in the middle of the night.

LOL - thanks.  Should have said "up half the night peeing".

Believe it or not, we also disagree about the thermostat setting.   :)

PS:   I just checked with her, she said to make it "any water after 6 PM".

Maybe.  Depends on reaction to the caffeine.  Black coffee and unsweetened tea are interesting for health benefits.

I honestly don't drink it for the waking up, as it doesn't really help me wake up.  The only thing it seems to do is help me focus a little better, but I have to drink at least 6-7 cups for that.

LOL. How does it not make sense? Because it doesn't specifically say "get up in the middle of the night TO PEE"? The peeing is clearly implied.

Yeah, I've been drinking 1-2 gallons of water a day now, so I do drink it well into the night.  I've also noticed I've been sleeping better.  I do have to pee during the midnight feed-and-change of my daughter, but the need to pee doesn't wake me up or anything.

I've also noticed that my lips, which are always dry and cracked lately, are less so.  I don't know if that's related or not, but I've noticed it.

In any case, I've become a big fan of slamming water all day.  Aside from the fact that it's the cheapest thing I can be drinking, of course.

That would be directly related. One of the early signs of dehydration is chapped lips.
