It is to everyone else who is not retarded. You've demonstrated you don't understand the concept of dietary sodium. And many other things.
You literally are too stupid to discuss this because you don't even understand what dietary sodium means. I imagine you're banging your head against a salt rock.

That really clears it up. Thanks.
All-in on the sodium and sugar tax.
Not a fan.
When are cooking oils going to be taxed like this? Butter?
Will these types of taxes also be applied to carbohydrates in the future? After all, many people don't burn off the carbs they eat, not even close.
There goes the sales of corn and peas!
posted by Verbal KintThis is awesome. Liquid absorption of sugar is the worst. Type of sugar? I only drink water, black coffee unless I know I am harming my body with alcohol infrequently. Tell me more.
As much as sugar in general is the worst form of calories (fats and proteins are better), Spock is right. The type of sugar does make a difference.
Powerade and pretty much all pop/soda use high fructose corn syrup which is much worse for you than regular sugar (sucrose).
Gatorade uses sucrose, which while not good for you, it is better for you than High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Gatorade is crap. Water is life. 99% of workouts just need post water. No need for anything beyond fruit if you have the pass out/dizzy 1% workout that might rarely occur.
I can never understand the people who drink gatorade casually. Especially the fruit punch. That stuff is garbage.

I'll drink it every once in a while to help with a hangover, but only if I have to be out running errands and can grab a bottle easily. I miss Lemon Ice.

Correct. I will not subscribe to bro science. There is not a need for sucrose or dextrose.
I like Costco posting the sign to let shoppers know they can go to 2 other locations outside the city limits to buy the drinks they want without having to pay a confiscatory fee.

Hi. This is irony. I'd like a moment of your time.

Drank a lot of it while in Vegas, both to chase having a few drinks AND because it's so fucking dry out there.

Well, electrolytes really aren't "bro science," and they are indeed contained in some of the sports drinks you can buy.
However, if we're getting down to brass tacks, you're not wrong. While water may not be as replenished after exercise without electrolytes along with it, it's not like you're going to die without them ... at least more than 99% of the time.

I have a problem with thinking sugar drinks are healty.
My belief is that fruits and vegetables provide electrolytes without entering sugar drink mode and if I need sodium, sea salt in EVOO will replenish.

Oh, sure. You can absolutely get electrolytes without a sugary "sports drink." I daresay, however, that trying to eat a banana with some EVOO while drinking water in the middle of playing in a basketball game is ... well ... cumbersome.
However, I don't disagree with you that sugar in such a drink is unnecessary to any healthy process.

Not Gatorade though. It's nutrient dense. It has the proper % of sugar (and type of sugar) to prevent an insulin response.

Eh ... nutrient dense? It's electrolytes, carbs, and what? Maybe some B-vitamins? Not sure I'd call that nutrient dense.
For someone exercising either for a really long time or in extreme heat, absolutely. However, unless someone has diabetes, they shouldn't be having an insulin response through just an hour of exercise or so, provided it's indoors or in normal temperatures.

Re-read the thread. I read his post as a Brawndo reference.

posted by Spockyou are an idiot if you dont unerstand that there are electrolytes in it and also the sugar to fluid concetration is at the proper % to allow for absorbtion without a large insulin response. Not to mention the type of sugars used.
I am not going to explain any further to you or anyone else if you think I am stupid. Just keep drinking powerade you idiot.
posted by SpockWhat they fail to understand is that not all sugar products are as bad as others. Taxing a nutrient dense food like gatorade (milk has sugar in it also, they gonna tax that?) is stupid.
Taxing empty calorie/high sugar/added sugar products would be ok (NY state soda tax) is what needs to be done to reduce the obesity/healthcare issues with over consuming sugar.

Yeah, I went back and read.
