Ironically, about the only thing that can rescue the Dems from a slaughter in November is a war...

Gotta deflect from the catastrophes at home.

That is a hot take (and likely true)
posted by justincredibleWell, we're in a Fourth Turning anyway, which almost always ends in a major war, so this was inevitable. The next decade is going to be LIT.
Oh you subscribe to that theory?
I find it highly dubious as it is a lot of assumptions and cherry picking historical events to paint a broad brush of an era.
I remember reading it in college and thinking this is way too simplistic.
I find the theory interesting. Glad you had it all figured out in college.
Now, snark aside, it certainly seems like we're in a period of "crisis" or at the very least heading into one. It could be complete bullshit, but if it's not, a lot of people are going to be completely blindsided over the next decade or so.
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Isn't that the saying?

I don't think it's related, but I saw an analysis a while back that violence/unrest surge about every 50-60 years. And we are ~60 years past the '60's.
Political....not talking about the 80's surge in drug and gang violence.
I'm think if Trump somehow gets elected in 2024 that Antifa and BLM are going to make Jan.6 look like, well, an unscheduled tour.
Human history is full of cyclical ass beatings. It's not an era. It is all history. No continent or race has ever been free of it.
I always tell my sons the world is inhabited by two types of people. Those that want to be left alone and those that want to control other people. Just a simplistic observation.
An interesting mathematically case for a violent American revolution that I read a few years ago has resurfaced.

Biden calling that reporter a SOB is hilarious. Hope he starts with the mean tweets next.

Isn’t there supposed to be a news cycle about how the free press is under attack? I thought how this works.

It wasn't so much a dumb question as awkwardly phrased (Deuchy gets regularly pwned trying too hard to get in a gotchya question), but why didn't Biden just do what politicians always do, which is just answer the question you wanted?
And with Trump, it was the CNN guy that was always doing it. Why does anyone defend these guys? What they're doing is not journalism, and I wish the WH would make it a regular practice to pull press passes of these clowns.

No different than 2007-2008. We had the casualties of Iraq and Afghanistan in the news. Russia invaded Georgia, North Korea was launching missiles, and China was feeling itself after hosting Beijing games. Oh, the the global economy tanked.
I'd also say, today is nothing compared to the daily news or crisis of the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Yeah, it's performance arts at their finest. Reporter for left/right leaning station lobs softballs at "their guy" and goes for straight-up gotcha stuff when it's the other party at the podium. Where the answer is far less significant than the response. Either to go pure kiss-ass about how your guy is soooo presidential in his demeanor and response OR to give the opinion show hosts something to bitch about because the guy's an obvious clown amirite?!?

There was and then Biden apologized and said he was wrong, which Trump would never do.
Still bad, but let's not act like the two are the same.

I think that last point is spot on. CNN / MSNBC spent every single night talking about what a jerk Trump was. These kinds of interactions he had with their reporters just fed into those shows. Fox seems to be doing the same thing - providing the subject matter for their commentators to be outraged about.
A total asshole lived on my paper route when I was a kid. He was old and mean as hell. I hated collecting from him because he always scared the shit out of me with his meanness. Every single time I went to his house, it was the same thing. And after, I'd complain about him for a couple of days to anyone that would listen. I probably could have had him moved to "direct bill pay" (this was the Columbus Citizen-Journal circa 1980-81, but they had that. But in reality, I kind of liked the drama and notoriety I got after our visits.

I was wondering why these guys always take like a minute to spit out a word salad of a question. How is that possible when your job is mostly asking 2-3 questions per day [if you're lucky]?
Then I realized it has to be deliberate. Confusing, inflammatory....all of the above, all designed to provoke some sort of negative reaction. And no one knows what you're actually asking, so then you get to pretend like they're dodging your questions.
