No different than 2007-2008. We had the casualties of Iraq and Afghanistan in the news. Russia invaded Georgia, North Korea was launching missiles, and China was feeling itself after hosting Beijing games. Oh, the the global economy tanked.

I'd also say, today is nothing compared to the daily news or crisis of the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Well, there is debate when the current turning started (I know, I know, you already dismissed the theory when you were a mere twenty-something). I've seen some say it started 2001 with 9/11, some say 2008 with the crash. So the first part of your post really doesn't dismiss the theory that we're in a period of crisis. In general, the turnings last about 25-30 years so either date fits. I also think there's a good possibility that we're seeing the ending days of the USD as the global reserve currency, which would likely usher in a period of chaos.

Like I said, I find the theory interesting, and given my world view the pieces seem to fit. I'm not a strict adherent or anything, but the probability seems higher than not to me. Regardless, to dismiss it completely seems risky.

That said, I'm an absolute re(dact) so anything I say should be dismissed as total nonsense.

It wasn't so much a dumb question as awkwardly phrased (Deuchy gets regularly pwned trying too hard to get in a gotchya question), but why didn't Biden just do what politicians always do, which is just answer the question you wanted?

And with Trump, it was the CNN guy that was always doing it.  Why does anyone defend these guys?  What they're doing is not journalism, and I wish the WH would make it a regular practice to pull press passes of these clowns.

There was no gotcha question involved; it was supposed to be about inflation, and that's what the question was about.

Then Biden called him an hour later to ostensibly apologize.  Biden is a bumbling numbskull; which is no longer news.

"Do you think inflation is a political liability?".

That is a STUPID question.  And when either answer makes you look bad, that's a textbook gotcha question.  Also, Deuchy asks them about inflation almost every other day.  You'd think he could be a little more creative and diversified.

Biden's answer was just about perfect, actually. Sarcastic response, and then he called him a dumbass.

Maybe Putin will invade Ukraine, or maybe not.  I'm actually not that concerned about it.  Just the usual suspects pretending like this is the start of WW3.

It's just nutso.  Repubs want to sanction him BEFORE he's actually done anything.  And now Biden says no troops in Ukraine.  Why would you say that even if its almost certainly true? Closing the embassy was also a weak move - it's not Benghazi.  Putin isn't attacking our embassy or people.

I haven't really been paying attention, but I'm sure someone has said Putin is only doing this to help his buddy Trump.

Biden is so out of his league dealing with this guy.  Regardless of whether Putin is seriously contemplating invasion or bluffing, he's got his reasons.  Biden and his crew are never going to be clever enough to figure out what these drivers are.  Nothing will be learned here either.  You need a Churchill/Lincoln type guy to match wits with Putin.  We certainly don't have that here.

There was and then Biden apologized and said he was wrong, which Trump would never do.

Still bad, but let's not act like the two are the same.

LOL, Gutfeld just called it a stupid question.  I don't know if I've ever seen anything like that.

Did not see this coming - Justice Breyer has thrown Biden a lifeline by choosing to retire.

If he nominates someone who is far left, it's going to be a very divisive nomination. And I'm not sure if he can count on votes from Manchin and Sinema.

Republicans, of course, probably won't be able to resist a big fight that casts them as racists and hurts the 2022 midterms.

The names I’ve seen floating around are both black women, as Biden has said he would nominate (Jackson and Kruger). I doubt either could be as bad as Sotomayor. Since it is just replacing another liberal, I don’t think the repubs will put up much of a fight.

They can’t really fight in anyway after Trump and the idiots screwed up the Georgia vote.

You mean the repubs are not going to parade in witnesses who say they were raped by the nominee at a high school party, and contend that the nominee liked to drink beer?   How about massive insurrection-type protests on the steps of the Supreme Court?

None of that fun stuff?

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/video-westchester-new-york-migrants-night-contractors

One of the contractors told the officer later in the video: "I get the whole secrecy and all that s–t but this is even above my f–king pay grade . . . the f- -k, you know what I mean?"

"And why? You know why?" Hamborsky asked.

"You know why, look who’s in office. That’s why, come on," the contractor said.

"But what’s the big secret?" the cop asked.

"You know why. Because if this gets out, the government is betraying the American people," the contractor said.

Nat gas futures up 38% today (after they doubled over the last year).

The biden assault on the middle class and senior citizens rolls on.

Who gets credit for the new Intel plant to be built in New Albany outside of Columbus and announced last week?  Could bring upwards of 20,000 jobs to the region.  During Trumps tenure, you credited him with all of these things.  Does Biden get the credit for this one?

There are a number of national security concerns that have been uncovered by the pandemic, and one of those is silicon chips.

But I don't recall much of "Build Back Better" focusing on that stuff.  It's all manufactured crises of identity politics, climate change, etc...Long past time to focus on things that actually matter.

And it's a complicated question, because subsidizing national industries at the expense of open global competition is antithesis to free markets.  But when you source all this shit from China, and then it gets hoarded by them in a pandemic or war...
