Well, if he's just talking about the optics, I agree.  It's not a good look.  And optics do count when it comes to elected positions.

Then again, there's obviously the counterargument to that: the current POTUS.

I'm just going to point out this and that out. 

You can call it equating, optics or you can call it identity politics but the intent is pretty much the same from where I am.

If you think optics and identity politics are exactly the same, I can't help but think it's because you're trying to.

When I say that the optics aren't good, I'm not speaking to the motives of anyone dismissing her prior to a full, orderly presentation of the facts.  I'm saying that the homogeneous nature of the group allows for speculation at all.

We use this in statistics all the time.  Naturally, correlation doesn't prove causation, but with enough repetition of correlation we have reason to believe there might be a causal relationship.

It's the same way here.  If every male Republican over the age of 50 dismisses the claim at the onset, it doesn't prove a causal relationship out of sexism or ageism or even political party.  It gives reason to speculate there might be, though.

To deny that is to effectively deny any justification for investigating anyone as a suspect of a crime.  The same train of thought is used.  Enough correlation between evidence and an individual doesn't prove guilt, but it certainly gives a reason to look for guilt.

At this point, I'm not even talking about Kavannaugh. "Old white men" or any variation of it is identity politics. What I'm saying is that, unless you are somebody who buys into it, it turns people off. It has for some time now. It's in the same categories as toxic masculinity, white silence is violence, etc. And while it can be used as a descriptor, more often than now currently, it's used as a discriminatory tool, something best left to the Tumblr culture.

I think the notion that you either buy into it or you're turned off by it is a false dichotomy.  I don't buy into the "old white men" part as a claim (though I do buy into the fact that they're Republican ... this is all partisan nonsense), but I'm not especially turned off by it, either.  Again, it's correlative to the degree that I'd get why someone might think there's a causal relationship.  I just don't hold that view myself.

I say let them have at it. These people are worse than the religious right because what they consider heresy changes by the day. At least with the RR they are pretty stuck in their ways and you know what to expect.

The demagogues that propagate this narrative miscalculate in that they fail to realize that a large number of women and minorities have "old white men" that they love and respect in their lives.  Also young white men that will one day become "old white men".  Politics should be argued in the arena of ideas not race or gender.

No doubt that these people and the people who are ok with this (there are a lot of "normal" people who are ok with this behavior... see Sarah Sanders getting kicked out of a restaurant) are the same people who after Trump won the election a bunch of racists were going to come out of the woodwork and do exactly what these people are doing on a large scale.

The whole 'We Stand With #CHRISTINEBLASEYFORD' movement mystifies me.....

What proof do they have that the FBI, law enforcement, Congress, etc not have?  Is there some sort of bombshell evidence that will come out on Thursday that no one has at this time?  All that I have seen so far is a 'she said / he said' argument.

I will stand with #CHRISTINEBLASEYFORD too as soon as I see some physical proof that what she says happened......really did happen.

With that said, for her allegations to be truly taken seriously, she and her lawyer need to actually take things further than "way back when, this happened" and actually testify in order to determine whether there's reasonable evidence out there to call his nomination into serious question, as opposed to playing the "we'll testify on some date if concessions are made" game that doesn't exactly make it look like she has anything other than "he said/she said" talk to offer.

Rushed through? Was there not a 2 week confirmation process where Feinstein had this letter from 4 weeks prior to that?  Was there a reason Ford needed a week once outed to actually talk with the Judiciary? C'mon. Agreed with the rest of your post though.

He was nominated in July and the dems held this info until the very last second.  I am not sure how this is being rushed, especially since they have moved the goalposts twice now for Ford to testify.  Who knew it was so difficult to tell the truth?

Between the 2 accusations you have about 12 witnesses that have been identified and they all more/less say they don't know wtf the accusers are talking about.  You don't hold up a SCOTUS vote for a very weak accusation.
