Saw a pretty interesting debate about this on twitter. No real criteria but you can only pick one. So what is the worst state?

It was between 4 states but I settled on Mississippi.

We went to Branson last summer which isn’t far from Arkansas. I was looking to see what if anything where was to do in Arkansas and…..there wasn’t a lot.

Oklahoma looks like it sucks, too.

I thought about all of these but I gave Arkansas the nod over Mississippi because I liked Ozark 😁

Even though it was set in southern Missouri lol

Kansas was pretty bad but it was saved by Lawrence and east to Kansas City.

Arkansas is pretty bad but Hot Springs, Arkansas is a cool town so that will save it.

I know people hate on West Virginia but Pocahontas County and the Greenbriar was absolutely beautiful and the camp I worked at was awesome.

I haven’t spent much time in Mississippi but it was bad. I’ve drove thru it on the way to New Orleans and it may be the only place I’ve ever stopped at a gas station and felt uncomfortable because I wasn’t a local. Then I stayed a couple nights there in a hotel along the coast and it all just felt trashy. So I’ll go with Mississippi as the worst and New Jersey as second worst.

WV isn’t too bad, probably bottom 12 but several worse

the lake of the ozarks (the setting for Ozark) is pretty much right smack in the middle of missouri, not the southern missouri.

not that it matters, because rural missouri is rural missouri.

my last job required me to travel a fair bit. i drove when i could just to see new things, but occasionally i'd have to fly.

I've visited (or lived in): OH, MI, KY, IN, IL, WI, ND, SD, MO, IA, KS, CO, AZ, TX, PA, NY, VT, CT, NH, ME, WV, VA, DC, TN, GA, FL.

out of all of those, the worst state by a significant margin was north dakota. just a terrible place. i don't know why anyone would intentionally settle down there.

in terms of metrics, it's almost certainly mississippi or alabama. they're both dead last in most categories (crime, education, money, etc)

Hot Springs Arkansas is a really cool area. It’s got some good restaurants in the downtown area to go along with the Springs.

WV is the only one where marrying w first cousin was legal, no clue if that’s still the case, but that seals it for me.

West Virginia is fine with me. If we’re strictly talking about driving through I would prefer the Forest/hills/mountains of WV vs boring Indiana for example.

I'd say Mississippi and Nebraska are both bad to me. Not much in either.

I think that all the flatlands states are rather boring. Kansas is probably what I would list as particularly awful. We drove there when I was still single digits years old for a wedding. Agonizingly boring for a kid that young and it set the template for me to dislike it forever lol.

Even if a state is listed as "bad", some of the states listed above have striking views or a general pleasantness of scenery.

Without much thought, probably something like Mississippi.

For me, it is Texas hands down. I hate the heat, hate the look, and have no interest in the culture. Houston, Dallas and San Antonio rank among my least favorite cities ever.

I have set foot in all 50 states, and IMO the answer is either Arkansas or Nebraska.

Northern Nebraska is the worst place I've ever been to. Nothing there.

Take that drive and multiply it by 8 and you have Kansas.

Remarkably, no one has brought up politics yet so I will.

Georgia has thousands of people who voted for MTG. Georgia should be considered.

Driving through Atlanta is also horrendous.
