Does football get started on time?

Like are we sure that Rutgers has all the testing resources and everyone is following the rules?

Why wouldn't they?  Rutgers University has a $1B budget.  I'm sure they can find a few thousand to test athletes.  Yeah, they're making budget cuts like many other universities.  But their football program probably already loses more money than it costs for testing, so it doesn't seem like the cost of a compliance program would really be an issue.

Harbaugh said they've done, what, 1000 tests?  That's about $100k.

I don't think they can. I think that is what we are finding out around the country. A lot of these teams do not have the resources. Also, they may not want the liability of it all. 

NFL could make bank if they figured out how to play 2 games every night of the week with no live sports and nothing but re-runs to compete against.

At least some of the other college sports have a chance to play in the spring.  I don't think it will happen for football because I don't see NFL prospects wanting to play in the spring.

Wonder what they thought the reaction was going to be. “We’re going to cancel one of the most popular things in the country over a virus people are less and less concerned over.”

NFL could make bank if they figured out how to play 2 games every night of the week with no live sports and nothing but re-runs to compete against.

At least some of the other college sports have a chance to play in the spring.  I don't think it will happen for football because I don't see NFL prospects wanting to play in the spring.

Yeah, maybe later into the season..but September and October is loaded with NBA/ NHL and maybe MLB Playoffs. 

Hell last night, I was going back and forth between the Indians game and the Bluejackets. 

Also, Bruce Feldman has knocked down the myth that a lot of players would sit out. I think there would be probably a few per power 5 team, but we won't see massive waves of players sitting out. We would probably see a little more than we have seen so far, which is only the best player on each team.

College football's inability to have a singular voice is killing it right now. It is just fucking chaos...

Lol yeah. Or maybe they didn’t anticipate that their best players would just transfer to SEC schools, leaving your teams bankrupted for quality talent   

Either way, they better not cancel this without at least trying

Dude come on. These schools can find the money to test their student athletes. Do they WANT to? Probably not, but can they? Absolutely

Oh, I agree. I think they can if they had to by cutting various other things and sports, but they really, really, really do not want to.

If they play in the spring?  That would be tough on the draft prospects.  They'd be heading off to mini-camp a few weeks after the college season ended.  I think it would be more than a few top players.  I think at least 200 draft prospects would sit out.

While I think the risk to college players is absolutely negligible, if I was Trevor Lawrence why bother?  He could sit out the year and still probably be a top-3 pick, if not #1. 

I respect he's a competitor.  But he would have been in the draft last year if not for the age requirement.   You have a tailor-made excuse to take that rare injury, or rare fall-off in performance, off the table. 

I'm not sure how NFL teams may have viewed that, but you could have just said one or both of your parents are at risk and you didn't want to potentially spread it to them.

Maybe he just wants to play and finish business at Clemson 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you want to talk about liability, how is 60,000 students on campus somehow more safe than playing football?  Look at what Harbaugh said - no community spread within the football organization.

250’ish players get drafted every year, with another 300 or so signing with nfl teams as UDFA’s. Why would they play in the spring for free when they can just opt out and get drafted in the spring, make money, and began working in the pro’s?

And the NFL already said they aren’t moving their draft back for NCAAF. They aren’t going to change to help the NCAA when they probably benefit if the NCAA gets cancelled

I really don't know.  Ptown is probably right that outside the R1/R2 sure bets most need the season to improve their draft stock.

But, yeah, I don't think there will be fall or spring NCAAF.  What will really change in 6 months?  College kids will be among the last in line for vaccines.  And if a vaccine is available, I don't think they'll greenlight sports before kids get vaccinated.  If there is no vaccine, you're faced with pretty much the same choice you just made to cancel.

Yeah but you can’t play a season at the same time the draft is going on lol the draft is in April. So let’s say the NCAAF season is February-April, you get drafted in April and then you are in training camp in July? That just won’t work, those players need the 6 months off to get their bodies healthy for another season. 

Here's something no one wants to think about: no March Madness in 2021, either.  Chances for college bball looking slim, I'd say (just basing it off fall sports being canceled).
