You read this entire thread, and are still calling them assault rifles?  SMH.

I'm referring to assault weapons the way I read it in wikipedia.

That definition covers most modern pistols then as well...most modern pistols are semi-automatic and have large capacity (larger than 10) magazines

As it turns out, the "scripted" story isn't accurate.  So when CNN reports BS, it's fake news.  What do you call it when it's Fox?

Fox reported what the guy said, with edited supporting documents. As long as they come out and report it was false, there you go. CNN's townhall was still dumb as fuck and the network is one of the shittiest ones on the air. I'm not going to defend Fox News, 90% of their shows and anchors are retarded.

I don't trust any media of any sort, nor do I like something simply because they agree with most of my views. It's called critical thinking, which no one seems to have anymore. Just a bunch of lemmings.

This is where we differ.  Trump's backers see his self-boasting as part of some grander plan and not the ravings of an insecure narcissist.  I like this guy's take on it:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2018/02/28/trump-says-he-would-save-people-its-fantasy-americans-should-worry-erik-goepner-column/378114002/

I don't think we do. Two separate things.  I didn't provide an analysis on most of his remarks.  He comes off as a blowhard idiot most of the time.

My post was more of the reactions he gets out of it and it never fails on the two sides I mentioned.  I stand by my comment.  I don't live and die by his remarks like the people I mentioned.

So based on going by wikipedia boogie pretty much wants to ban 99% of guns?  Got it.   Boogie, its ok either say you want all guns banned or you want the guns you think look scary banned.  At least you would finally be honest.

Oldie but a goodie.

Do you know what a barrel shroud is?

I do not. I believe it's the shoulder thing, that goes up.

No. It's not.

No, not readdressing.  I was just trying to show you what I had in mind for my original post.

I agree with your general take on the news media.  This fake news business is totally out of control.  It's all about people seeing what they want to see and then calling everything else fake.

Funny thing is that a barrel shroud is one of the "features" that may mean a gun is an assault weapon vs just a normal semi-automatic hunting rifle.

The barrel shroud's only there to keep the shooters hand from not getting burned by the heated barrel. On hunting rifles this is just the wood part, but on "assault weapons" it is made of black metal so it is scarier.

Dick's Sporting Goods has virtue signaled today by saying they will stop selling assault style weapons and won't sell things to anyone under 21.

They stopped selling ARs after Sandy Hook so this really only applies to their Field and Stream stores.

The virtue signaling is laughable. Glad Fedex stood up to the mob of tards. It's hilarious to me that people think them boycotting shit like Amazon or Fedex will get anything done. They're trying to boycott NRATV, which people probably didn't know about, and now probably has record viewers. It's so damn stupid.

Looks like I'll take my business elsewhere. I tend to buy my fishing gear at Field & Stream, I'll switch to Bass Pro Shops.

I just read their press release. Not only are they stopping the sales (certainly their choice, even if it's silly), but they are imploring congress to pass a new assault weapons ban and to raise the buying age to 21. I don't see their Field and Stream stores doing well after this, they are alienating a huge percentage of their target market.

Their only saving grace is if they are the only player in town. Now than Gander is coming back, good luck. I wouldn't have bought an AR from them anyway.

Are they not selling any gun to anyone under 21 or just semi-autos?

We at DICK’S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the tragic events in Parkland. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their loved ones.

But thoughts and prayers are not enough.

We have tremendous respect and admiration for the students organizing and making their voices heard regarding gun violence in schools and elsewhere in our country.

We have heard you. The nation has heard you.

We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens. But we have to help solve the problem that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of America – our kids.

Following all of the rules and laws, we sold a shotgun to the Parkland shooter in November of 2017. It was not the gun, nor type of gun, he used in the shooting. But it could have been.

Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens.

We believe it’s time to do something about it.

Beginning today, DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to the following:

  • We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all DICK’S stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores.
  • We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age.
  • We will no longer sell high capacity magazines.
  • We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.

At the same time, we implore our elected officials to enact common sense gun reform and pass the following regulations:

  • Ban assault-style firearms
  • Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
  • Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
  • Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
  • Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
  • Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks

We hope others join us in this effort to let our kids know that their pleas are being taken seriously.

Some will say these steps can’t guarantee tragedies like Parkland will never happen again. They may be correct – but if common sense reform is enacted and even one life is saved, it will have been worth it.

We deeply believe that this country’s most precious gift is our children. They are our future. We must keep them safe.

Sincerely,

Edward W. Stack
Chairman & CEO
