Raising the age to buy strips the Constitutional rights away from 18/19/20 year olds. Do they not have the right to self defense?

Uncle Sam can give you a gun and send you off to war to shoot it....but when you get home you'll have to wait to buy one?

Belly did say that those serving could have them. I just disagree.

The constitution says nothing about at what age someone can buy a gun.

By your logic, we have stripped the Constitutional rights away from 3/4/5 year olds to buy a gun........

We need to use common sense and refrain from knee-jerk, reactionary thoughts.....

Common sense says there is one age for adulthood in all contexts. If you can join the service and vote at 18, you should enjoy all rights at 18.

If the govt can conscript you, you're an adult.

And I'd prefer knee jerk thoughts, to knee jerk policy.

Right. People’s arguments are that well they can’t have a drink. Ok, then lower the drinking age to 18 too.

Yeah, but if we finally knock off the pointless debate, maybe we can move on to practical ideas that can do something.  It's simply a wedge issue both sides use to turn out their base....why nothing significant will ever be done (as if there's something significant that can be done).

Some states make you complete training to have a CCW....I wouldn't be against that as a requirement (sort of like a driver's license) to own a firearm period.  It's another, and more extensive, point of contact to evaluate someone's state of mind and mental health.

But there's already a healthy black market for guns - what do people think will happen if you make it harder to get a gun?

Very good point. Maybe that should be a criteria for buying a gun. Must be a registered voter, with a valid driver license, and a certification of CCW prior to buying a weapon to carry and or a special training classes certification for gun owners prior to buying a weapon.

Bring back the Draft and weed out the weak and cowards.

Would that include President Trump and his 5 draft deferments?

Nice generalizations. The govt does not own you, conscription is abhorrent.

The state would need to provide all training free of charge, otherwise you're potentially pricing the poor out of exercising a natural right.

Lol, this is how you get Trump. Their definition of assault rifle is almost all semi-automatic guns. Please run on this in 2018.

That was Belly's statement.

Yes conscription is abhorrent but for mine and Belly's generation it was the rule of  the land. Class wise it wasn't real fair.

I kind of like this idea. Maybe include having a high school diploma.

That is why its never going to pass.  18 year olds in this country have 2nd amendment rights.

Drinking is not a constitutional right.  Very poor argument.  If 2nd amendment rights are stripped till 21 then all of them can be.

Increasing the age limit to purchase will do nothing. As it's been said, knee jerk reaction.

Where in the 2nd amendment does it mention age?
