Said this on another site.

Shock value is gone on these. People tune in, say how tragic it is, and then move on.

Not much to say. Kid used an AR, people will call for banning, people will say the kid was a fuck up, rinse/ repeat nothing will happen besides me unfollowing people on twitter who know nothing about guns.

How did he get into the school? We had locked doors and a cop in 2002.

My other issue is why do no media sites hire a knowledgeable gun expert to proof read their articles. They could save a lot of shit if someone with any reasonable knowledge told them not to write half the shit they do. Also, the media goes full retard into a list some dumbass website put together that there have been 18 "school shootings" in 2018, which is a dumb number that includes things like a bb gun getting shot at a school bus. Don't get me wrong 4 is too many, but once again, they shoot themselves in the foot.

Its really not that difficult to get into schools as many are locked but they buzz you in without really looking or someone else lets you in.  This kid likely just came in with the other students.

As far as a cop.......i dont know of any that have cops, at least in my great neck of the woods, but I imagine many due.

It may sound selfish, but I can't really follow these things anymore.  As is stated here, the news will be predictable.  It's hard not to watch this and get very depressed...especially when there is nothing you can do about it.

I read it was later in the day, but it isn't like you can conceal an AR very well. And maybe that is the issue if people just buzz in randoms. Obviously need to wait and hear more. Just wondering out loud. We also weren't allowed off campus or anything so it isn't like a lot of people were coming or going.

We had a "resource officer" that was a uniformed police officer (1 of the 6 in the town).

They're happening really frequently (what, that was the 19th or something double-digity this year alone?) and there really doesn't seem to be a feasible solution. One side will act like taking all guns from everyone will solve everything (because crazy-ass people and criminals will just give their guns up too!); the other side will mumble "thoughts and prayers" while caring more about how that NRA $$$ is still rolling in. Mental health will be brought up a bunch of times, but no one will actually accomplish anything to prevent nutjobs from doing shit like this. If we're really lucky, Belly will come on here and say that if everyone had guns, this would have been stopped earlier (or the school'd wind up like the OK Corral with everyone panicking and shooting everything that moves, but that sort of consequence doesn't exist in his mind...).

Then it'll happen again, SS/DD

Then it'll happen again, SS/DD

And so on. It's gotten to where I have more a sense of resignation than outrage/shock now. Shit keeps happening, both sides do the same impotent hand-wringing, nothing actually happens to prevent/deter future incidents and the cycle repeats.

I've read that the FBI knew about the kid, and spoke to someone who reported his comments on a youtube video, saying he was going to be a "professional school shooter" or something similar, yet this still happened. WTF was the FBI doing in between? Did they not think to make a visit to the kid directly? People were literally joking this kid was eventually going to shoot up a school, yet nothing was done.

Depending on the model, the military version at least, you can easily break it down into two pieces that would fit into a backpack easily and put back together in mere seconds.

I mean, I get it. Emotions are running high and that's the easy target. I just hate that I'm the asshole when I push back on the call for more gun control with a reasoned argument.

Could be a law problem.   Maybe, according to the law, they did all they could possibly do if they investigated and didnt find anything other than just "free speech"

I find the people on either side that just stick their fingers in their ears and refuse to listen to logical, reasoned arguments to both be exhausting.

That said, you'd likely consider me much closer to the "gun weirdo" side of the spectrum as, at the end of the day, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that new laws are going to do much, if anything, to help curb the frequency or severity of these events going forward.
