What's dishonest about them not sending a bill on a timely basis? Bad business practice? Sure. Incompetence? Possibly. Dishonest? Not unless I missed something in the thread.

I think he's referring to his specific issues where he's received discounts. I agree, the only dishonest thing about this place was that they assured us our bill would be in the mail in mid-July, but I don't think it was intentional dishonesty. Just incompetence.
Dishonest, incompetence, bad business are all synonymous... in my opinion.
Words have actual meanings... in my opinion.

Dishonest and incompetent synonymous? Not even close
ETB is the guy at McDonald’s trying to get a free 10 piece nuggets because the service was slow.

You're both right. No, they are not synonymous. I guess, rather, each fall under "bad business practices." I will complain about anything that I, as a customer, feel is bad business practices. I am unapologetic about it, too, b/c it is my wallet from which the funds are coming.

Hospitals often take haircuts. If you are left with a co-payment balance of say, $800, from a procedure after insurance has paid, a hospital may very well accept $640 in a one-time up front payment, and write off the balance.

posted by justincredibleThey just called my wife and left a message asking us when we plan to send payment. No apology for the delay.
I know, I know, I'm not entitled to an apology. I won't request one.
So they waited 4 months to send the bill and have the balls to call you the day after you receive it asking when you plan on making the payment? Send them a check for $1 less than the bill and then send them a dollar bill in the mail with GFY written on it. Or pay in all pennies. The choice is yours.
posted by justincredibleMy question is, is it unreasonable to request, or even demand that they lower the bill before we send payment?
yes. if anything you should send them more because it is money they were entitled to several months ago. money in which they could've earned interest on.
better send them $6000 to be safe.
