Request discount or nah?

For me, a "win" would be to put it behind me. I'd cut them a check and forget that they even exist.

Just because you forgot about it and now Christmas is upon us isn't their problem......

But it is my problem that they forgot about it for almost 6 months.

This is my likely course of action, but it's still a super frustrating situation. In the end they'll get their money and a couple bad reviews.

A few years ago I had an old landlord that only accepted rent by check.  He once forgot about a check and deposited 5 months later.  I was not happy.

In the end, the only reason they'll likely get paid is because we called out their initial incompetence in not sending the bill after the first month. Had they called us this week requesting access to our basement to remeasure, could we have just said nah?

I would say "No, you already did this."

I would sit on the bill until you are financially ready to pay it.  Or budget and pay it off within 6 months.  I would not pay it all off up front, no way.

Hospitals move slow with billing as well....would you ask them for a discount?

I'd imagine the owner of the hospital wouldn't assure me the bill would be sent the following Monday, after fucking up once already and inconveniencing us to come back out to our house, and then wait 4 months. But, if they did, sure.

They just called my wife and left a message asking us when we plan to send payment. No apology for the delay.

I know, I know, I'm not entitled to an apology. I won't request one.

Hospitals often give a 20% discount for prompt payment

Sounds like $12 a month payment to the cleaning company to me.

I still understand how this is not covered by your water damage endorsement under your homeowners policy.

Like I said, our water backup endorsement had a max payout amount. Insurance cut us that check, but it's not going to cover all of the damage.

I'll get whatever discount I can take. We just saved 50% on a minor procedure on my son, so if there's a chance for a discount...I'm going to take it.

Call.  Call and bitch.  Use every argument you want, and bitch.  Don't use the "I'll give you a bad review" with them.  Just put it on them.  I've received discounts on hospital bills, auto service bills, and other bills, just be explaining to the companies how their practices were dishonest, even though "buyer beware."  I had no legs to stand on in each of my situations (where I rec'd discounts) in the eyes of the law, but the businesses all understood my frustration.

Call and bitch.  They say no, then fine.  Send them the payment when you feel like sending them the payment.

Sounds like I should outsource my bitching to you. I'll give you 10% of whatever discount you can muster. :)

For calling a business out for dishonest practices?

That's the problem with businesses... they feel that they should perform the service, but customer care doesn't matter.  "Just shut up and give me your money."  Problem is, too many customers fall in line.
