No for diabetes.  Car accidents are "contagious" in that someone else can cause your death through no fault of your own.  

And there are all sorts of laws ranging from speed limits to seat belt requirements to large penalties for driving under the influence and so on in order to attempt to minimize those deaths. If you were to make those two direct comparisons, there would be fines and jail time for being caught not wearing a mask or properly social distancing...or virtually anything could go on the road regardless of recklessness with next to no fear of anything ever happening from a legal perspective because "MUH RITES!!!!".

Basically what heretic said. Comparing an infectious disease to car accidents or diabetes or anything else that isn’t an infectious disease is just fucking stupid. Especially when your argument is that we shouldn’t take precautions for this infectious disease —yet you’re comparing it to something that we take precautions for.

Being against another shutdown doesn't mean you're against taking precautions.

We should take all reasonable precautions - I'm all for that.  I just feel strongly that the benefits of opening school far outweigh the risks, while acknowledging there are risks.  My point with comparisons is just to say that there is no point of "no risk" - it's an impossible goal.

I really don’t understand your point at all, honestly. No one has said there’s ever going to be a time of “no risk”. You made a comparison to a car accident and another disease just to say that we’re never going to have no risk? Well no shit!

Seems pretty obvious to me that your point is we should have most everything reopened, take some precautions, but open everything back up because these other things in life have risk too and we don’t shut down for them.

Perhaps it was referred to me.  

I don't recall stating not taking some precautions, I think of myself as a very caution person (germ wise) before all of this even started, I don't get sick, I take care of myself.  I actually like the fact that people are now careful around others, and coughing is less public, therefore reducing the transmitting of any virus, which results in less general non critical sickness

I attempted to imply that the mental result government overreach of shutting down businesses, education, life, is going to far exceed the protection of unhealthy persons, that is my point  

Type2 diabetes is a result of lifestyle, it is a significant factor for those who do not fare well if they obtain the virus, that is why I brought it up.  I did not bring up auto accidents, I would imagine that the trip to school in a vehicle for a healthy school age person, if much more dangerous than this virus for critical results   

Although many of the medical persons I speak with on this doubt the mask use, I will still wear one in stores for the mental health of others, so they don't fear a potential perceived risk.  They is enough fear and anxiety due to this, I don't need to contribute to more than is already being propagated

And maybe this should be a separate post, but school HAS to open up. How long can you wait? In SC alone, they haven't been able to get in touch with 16k students since March. I can't imagine how much it is in bigger, more populous states. How long can you let this go on. Teachers always portray themselves as essential almost as doctors, but they are the ones putting up the biggest fight right now.

One person is their second time.. they all work in the bar industry or their SO does.. we are getting retested at the doctor tomorrow because I was at a pool with 2 of them on Saturday. 

As far as teachers.. you can’t have a doctor without a teacher lol but seriously I know they want to go back to work many of them also have kids they want back in school.. but many are older and are scared. If they are anything like myself I assumed this wouldn’t be in the convo and we would of course go back to school.. unfortunately we are going the wrong direction and now I’m not sure. How do you get a substitute teacher if u get sick or just feel sick. Are they going to risk their lives for 65$ what if 3-4 teachers or more have to sit out 14 days.. I’m fine with whatever happens I really would love to get back to work.. I have a feeling that just like with sports we are going to waste a bunch of time and money trying to open only to close. I think the smart thing to do would be to invest that money into materials and resources that would enhance the online experience for the first 2 nine weeks. 

My wife has several co-workers that have tested positive now.

I think that it would be wiser to start with distance education and try to keep the teachers healthy so that they can continue to work. Good luck trying to find and train distance education substitutes if too many teachers get sick.

I don’t think distance learning works for anyone under the high school level, definitely not elementary. And what are working parents supposed to do?

What makes you think this? I get the working parents part. I think the second half of your opinion is affecting the opinion on the beginning of the post. Online isn’t as affective but it can work with the proper planning. Social distancing with a mask doesn’t sound great either

Bc little kids need hands on, individual attention. So the parent would have to co-teach the entire time. And what about kids who don’t have any caregiver that can help? They just fall behind until in-person teaching can happen again and then fall back a grade or more?

Logistically, how are you going to deep clean all equipment, gym floor, lockers, etc. between periods in your PE classes?

And I’ll add, when my brother taught hs at bad schools in SC and Canton, he could barely get them to do their work showing up to school. Should we just give up on kids not self motivated?
