Yeah, it definitely sucks. They at least held firm on allowing us to get paid for 30 hours this week to keep our insurance through the end of April.

Well, we were completely laid off today. After being dropped to 15, then up to 20 hours. They made the final call today. And with no way to determine a recall date, we were all let go. 27 of us in my department.

Sorry to hear that, wildcats.

Friend of a friend, a healthy college baseball player, was apparently just put into a medically-induced coma and put on a ventilator.

Fuck this shit.

Its like winning the lottery with this thing.....either it doesnt do anything to you or you knocking at deaths door.

As soon as you test positive for it, why arent doctors giving you that medicine to keep you from dying?

Cause they are not sure it works and are not sure of the side effects yet....

Widely distributing a drug that has not been fully tested is not safe. There could be numerous drug interactions or side effects to people that may not show in small sample sizes.

Some good corona news out of Italy as it seems daily case #s are slowly trending downward, while also the number of tests are increasing.  Good sign and I hope the trend continues.

FDA approved it the other day.  Besides, medical professionals have known for decades that this malaria drug is pretty harmless with few side affects, it was "fully tested" decades ago.

Yeah, I saw where the FDA approved releasing it to some people, but it all depends on other drug interactions and each patient. Not as simple as say here take this once you test positive.

Hoping this does start to work as we went to 2k to 3k in deaths in less than 24 hours

It has a pretty long, established history.  I think the main issue is if it truly is effective, or the most effective option.   They aren't/can't do controlled testing, so you need thousands of trials to determine if it's working because 95% of hospital patients would recover on their own (some with help from a respirator).

Secondary to that, and with other trials, is when is the most effective time to administer?  As a preventive, or early after onset of symptoms?  But I don't think the use/approval of this would be progressing if there wasn't reason for continued optimism.

If we found just a few drugs that worked even 50% of the time, we could reduce mortality down to levels seen in a bad flu season.

How delusional and entitled do you have to be to call up the Director of WHO and ask how you - a non-health professional - can help?  I assume Dr. Fauci must have ignored her calls.

GaGa: "What can I do to help?"

Director: "You could write a big check"

GaGa: "I mean, sure, but what else?"

Director: "Stop wasting my time calling me?"

Eh, I get why they are.  Curves tend to have a decline that mirrors the incline, and since we're not even to the apex.  The downswing is going to take awhile.

June 10th might be a bit extreme, but I'd wager that if we get to mid-May and things are already under control, they'll rescind it early.

So Fredo has the 1-9....I wonder if he'll take the malaria drug, and then deny if it works?

North Korea still claims to be virus free.  What a miracle.  The Dear Leader probably developed his own cure.  Pretty cool.  Not as cool as his dad shooting a 38 with 11 holes in one on a championship golf course his first time playing golf, but cool nonetheless.

Reminds me of the North Korea virus meme:

Number of Infectees

8:00 -- 1

8:04 -- 0

11:14 -- 1

11:18 -- 0

And so on.
