Went to scene 75 last weekend, like a Dave and busters I guess.

As we were standing around waiting for games to open up I looked around and saw shooting game after shooting game and thought to myself...?no wonder we have a violence issue.

30 yrs ago when this was bought up I just laughed at the notion but now......maybe there is something to that argument.

What say you

The last part is what I'm getting at really.   People have diff minds and thoughts and impulse control.   For the most part people fall in line but there are sick people and i dont doubt it can encourage some to act out in that fashion than if they were never exposed to it.

I think I fall in the crowd of.....all the violence cannot help the situation.

The entire world has access to violent video games.  The difference is America's access to guns, not games.

Good parenting and these games don’t affect anything.

i grew up watching Elmer Fudd shoot Daffy Duck in the face and Wile E Coyote falling off huge cliffs and splatting  on the ground....neither ever died but I understood I couldn’t and shouldn’t shoot my friend or enemy in the face.

You know you're getting old when arguments from 20-25 years ago are being re-booted.  It's movies.  It's music.  It's video games.  No, it's shitty parents that don't care and aren't around.

I don't know if Trump is a Democrat or Republican, but he's DEFINITELY a 90's politican with some of his talking points and agendas.

i am 45.  I grew up right in the middle of the desencitization to violence.  To see violent things we had to rent some VHS cassette from the video store that showed shit like monkeys getting their heads cut off (dont remember the name of the movie)

I would say that video games were part of this and likely started some of it but movies, music videos, the "real world" TV model, music lyrics other shock culture stuff from the early 90's played a major role.

i mean hell what year was this?  One of the most violent moment in about any movie.

Without looking it up, I'm guessing 1987

Thanks said.  I assume this explains why Japan has such a high suicide rate?

And let's not forget guns were part of American culture since our founding....but gun homicides didn't really develop until the 1960's.  The history of mass murders goes back decades before that, but now they prefer to use guns.

Yep; trying to blame games is just a lame-ass scapegoating attempt by a lame-ass "leader".

The simple answer to many problems in this country.  The majority of the issues in this country could be solved by good parenting.

Too many parents truly truly suck. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Which, oddly enough, maybe it IS vidoes games, tv, music and movies.  Those things, along with the smartphone/tablets/computers, are all much cheaper and more available today....and they've become a replacement for parenting.

Sure, 25-30 years ago the television was still the stand-in babysitter/parent for a lot of deplorables.  But programming was also a lot more family oriented then.

No, it doesn't.

Japan's long tradition of "honorable suicide" is one reason for the high rate.

Japan also has no history of  make-belief religions, like Christianity.  Suicide is not a sin.

I'll assume you don't consider the 20k+ suicides by gun per year in the USA when talking about gun deaths like most grabbers do?

Saw a tweet about this yesterday, I agree.

If violence is blamed on video games, how come I'm not a world-class soccer player?

If we're trying to find a reason for these kids shooting up schools, outside of parenting issues, I'd be more likely to look into the drugs they are being given that to look at violent games/movies. What percentage of school shooters were on some sort of psychotropic drug?

From the National Institute of Mental Health:

What are the possible side effects of antidepressants?

Some antidepressants may cause more side effects than others. You may need to try several different antidepressant medications before finding the one that improves your symptoms and that causes side effects that you can manage.

The most common side effects listed by the FDA include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weight gain
  • Diarrhea
  • Sleepiness
  • Sexual problems

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the following symptoms, especially if they are new, worsening, or worry you(U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2011):

  • Thoughts about suicide or dying
  • Attempts to commit suicide
  • New or worsening depression
  • New or worsening anxiety
  • Feeling very agitated or restless
  • Panic attacks
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • New or worsening irritability
  • Acting aggressively, being angry, or violent
  • Acting on dangerous impulses
  • An extreme increase in activity and talking (mania)
  • Other unusual changes in behavior or mood

Along with shitty parenting, I agree with this.  We are starting to see generations grow up their entire lives with these drugs and what the results are.

I don't know.  If you're going to change the subject, make a different thread and I'll think about it.  I was answering a question about Japan and it's high suicide rate.

Hope this helps.

salto is upset he was gently razzed for not reading properly. My question was not off topic for this thread, but I'm not surprised you're unwilling to answer a simple question.
