I like him.
He was the first player to hit an inside the park home run in Jacob's Field.

Thoughts on the hire? Not very exciting, but I'll reserve judgement.

I like him too.
I liked his father Buddy and I liked David when he played for the Indians.
I like the hire. He seems to be an analytics guy which I wanted. We shall see. Reds have some talent they just need a good manager.
It’s meh to me. Smells like a Castellini call

I always struggle with old school guys going the analytic way and while he’s not an old guy, he’s been brought up in baseball and he’s gonna irritate the analytic Reds fans I bet

This is the main reason I'm not super excited. I have nothing against the guy, and obviously hope he turns out to be a good manager, but the fact that his dad works for the organization doesn't sit terribly well with me.

Just need a good manager? I'd say a good manager is less than 10% of, what they need, and I think they've had pretty decent ones since Dusty. This one will probably be pretty decent and suffer the same fate.

Guess I just meant to get back to mediocrity/playoff contention. They have talent on the team, just need a manager to help everyone put it together and start ringing together some wins.
I would not argue the reds have had a good manager since dusty.
Price was over his head and Riggleman screamed mediocrity
Baseball managing is a lot different now. Relief pitchers starting, shifts, no bunting, no stealing bases, everyone throws 98
I don’t trust the Reds minor league pitching development and not huge on front office.
I wanted to get that job 😡😡😡
A little off topic but I thought this was cool....the Akron Zips baseball team hired Chris Sabo as their manager.

Sabo is a good good dude and I haven’t kept up on him since his decade long career...but I wonder how qualified a lot of these guys are that were former players that have been out of it forever.
So Sabo managed the Dayton Dragons in 2005. He has been head coach at elite IMG Academy where they get the top end high school prospects.
Sabo is a really smart guy and he definitely saw the game differently. Akron starting their program back from 2015 when it was shut down.
Side Sabo (Spuds) story. Back when GABP opened I was in my OF seats and some upper 20’s know it all drunj guy who randomly chant out loud “SAY-bo” and repeat 5 or 6x....same dude in the 6th inning bet his buddy he could hold his arms straight out for the entire inning (he lost a little focus) he bet him $20. I wanted in on the action but was turned down from their fun. He made It through 1 out and was foaming and yelling in dramatic pain.....once losing his $20 he went back to his Sabo chant the rest of the game.
It’s funny where alcohol takes you
Not a Reds fan but I liked the way Sabo played the game. Hard nosed dude. Congrats to him for getting the gig.
Start a Chris Sabo thread. :)
jk
Bell gets his first new coach, the Reds hired Derek Johnson as pitching coach. He's making a lateral move from the Brewers. All signs point to this being a good hire.
