Does football get started on time?

Seeing a lot of rumors of the nba season getting cancelled. Have a friend who works in an nba front office and he basically said the seasons done.
What about football? There’s almost no way it’s “business as usual” right? Logistically, it almost can’t happen. An nfl media guy brought up a good point the other day—team doctors and medical professionals can’t just start working for the teams during a massive pandemic right? They’ll almost assuredly be tied up in hospitals fighting the virus. How can you start training camp with no medical professionals with the teams?

I think we see a shortened season. Something like 2 preseason games and a 14 game season. To make sure the super bowl date doesn’t get pushed back.
what say you?

I will without much thought guess a 14 game season.

I think they will play a full season. As long as they are able to get to some OTAs and/or training camp I don't see them reducing the season.  No country can sustain being out of business for that long.  I think a good precedent in terms of scheduling was the 2011 lockout.  They crammed a lot of shit once they ended the lockdown and still had a full season.  It was and is definitely more advantageous for teams who don't fucking fire their entire front office and coaching staff every other year...

I just looked up the 2011 lockout.  The only "casualty" was the HOF game being cancelled.

NFL games will start as normal. There may be a delay in starting it training camp, OTA's, and I think the NFL will use this to test drive the reduced preseason games.  2021 they likely will have the expanded schedule and reduced preseason, and this year will be a necessitated dry run in the shorter preseason.

We might miss OTA's, but camp doesn't normally start until late July.  We're not shutting down virtually the entire economy for 5+ months.  They make most of their money off tv, anyway, so I think they play in almost empty stadiums (they'll hold a lottery and let like 2000 people in so fans can maintain social distancing).

I also think by then we will have the "first wave" well under control.  The better question is whether the NFL will finish it's season, because I think we're going to be hit harder by a second wave next winter.  Hope by then we have something to fight this with.

What could be rough on some of these GM's is the draft. Some guys with previous medical issues won't get physicals and there could be some swings and misses they may not usually happen.

I wonder what the NFL will do when a team has a player test positive.  That's potentially 4 teams that might be quarantined for up to 2 weeks.

It's one thing if a player or two is out a few weeks in quarantine, but what if it runs thru an entire team such that they can't even field 20 players?  You almost have to plan a 12-14 game season with some extra "coronavirus bye weeks".

Hope we get lucky and this thing goes away in the summer and never comes back.

Why isn’t golf still being played? Do it without the crowds, sure. Would it really be that unsafe to have tournaments still going on?

You bring up a good point.  I feel like golf is one of the few sports that can still find a way to hold events.

They’re trying to get a Tiger v Phil match going. I would love if they did more of those.

I’m good on the NBA2K tournament they’re trying to do right now. Drummond beat Boogie by 50 points last night. I wouldn’t want to play a game of 2K myself where I beat someone by 50 let alone sit around and  watch two other people do it.

Not the US but I saw where a baseball team in South Korea has been live streaming intrasquad games, at an empty stadium, for their fans.

Tough to do when it’s so global. Lots of moving parts for those players.

You keep the pin in, and you have one person per hole designated to lift the flag stick to get the balls out.  Seems simple

Or just can’t take the flag out. That’s what I do when I play

Was just reading that the ncaa have considered a spring 2021 start date, if this doesn’t improve soon. That would suck
