We could also get a FS in here to make Peppers move. Minkah?
posted by like_thatMy rankings depressing rankings:
1.Botch Davis: Made the playoffs and should have made it the previous year. Pretty easy to be #1 with the bar set low.
2. Crennel: Same as davis, the bar is set low, but he has the last winning season. There are many memories that could have gotten the Browns 11 wins and a playoff appearance, but the one that pisses me off the most is somehow the refs decided the push out rule didn't apply to the Browns against the cardinals. By rule (at the time), that was a clear TD. I always hated the push out catch rule, because the Browns got the short end of the stick, and then the one time it should have benefitted them the officials somehow decided the rule didnt exist.
3. Erica Womangini: Probably a controversial ranking, but it's really a pile of shit and he at least demonstrated success before the Browns. If he didn't have his tentacles on personnel decisions (trading down with the jets for garbage), I think he could have done better.*
4. Pettine: Same shit as mangini. If he doesnt want Gilbert and Haslam isn't a fucking idiot pushing for Manziel, I think he does better. Also came in when Gordon started his 2 year hiatus from the NFL.*
5. Palmer: His years are a blur, but at least he beat the Steelers.
6. Chud: Such a dumbass hire. He wasn't close to being qualified for a NFL HC gig. OMG he is from Cleveland guise!!
7. Little Patty Boy: I fucking hate him the most, but he isn't the worst coach of the group.
8. Hue: He went 0-16 and currently only has 1 win. He is automatically last place on the list and he should be disqualified from any HC job in the NFL for the rest of his life.
Robiskie is not eligible for my rankings.
*= when I say better, that still doesn't mean I don't think they were trash.
I agree with you on Davis & Mangini. I think Mangini would've been an exceptional coach if his friggin' "I can beat any team with any players" ego wouldn't have played a part in it. Davis should've never had control over personnel. He whiffed on a few HOF's (Tomlinson & TheRapist to name a few).
Where I disagree with you guys is Schurmur. If you watch his play calling, he's actually pretty good. I think his time here in Cleveland was partially due to the players (mainly QB) he was dealt. He's going to land another HC gig and I bet he's pretty decnet at it.
posted by BR1986FBI still maintain they have an above average front seven. What kills them is the secondary and they need more pass rush. Wonder why Peppers is positioned in the center field bleachers? Because Gregg Williams doesn't trust the scrub ass DB's he has to put out there. Main reason they are giving the WR's a 10 yard cushion. When they get better DB's in here, a) I'd bet you'll see more press coverage and b) I bet you'll see Peppers close to the LOS, playing in the box, where he thrives and belongs.
I agree with this. But because they don't have a secondary, they play that dumb shit and it is an easy loss.

I will take that bet. He isn't HC material.

These guys generally learn their lesson after their first failure. I doubt he makes the same mistake (calling his own plays) and brings in an OC. If he calls his own plays again, he'll fail miserably.

Guess you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit. They get the players back there, the wins will slowly come.
They were discussing this on the radio this morning because I guess Haden was recently butthurt about them wanting him to take a pay cut and his subsequent release. Now granted, Haden now pretty much sucks and is on the down side of his career. But would him still being with the Browns meant a couple of wins? Maybe? Guys like Mike Jordan probably never see the field and DB's that were playing out of position might be able to be shifted around.
By no means am I implying Haden would be some kind of "savior" because, again, he sucks, but he probably sucks less than most of what's already back there.

That's not true. Plenty of coaches failed on their first time only to fail again. Just look at our list of coaches. Hue apparently didn't learn anything in Oakland.

Jason Campbell (at that time), although far from a world beater, is better than anything the Browns have had here during Hue's tenure.

this, there was an article a while ago that basically said outside of Bill Bellichek, there wasn't a good example of a retread coaching ever being successful.

I guess I'd need a definition of "retread" because Belichick was a successful (playoffs in 1994) HC before it all fell apart after the team gave up when it was announced they were moving to Baltimore.
posted by Commander of AwesomeBrowns signed Elliot Wolf and twitter seems to like the move.
In terms of Browns HC ranking I'll go with this (starting in 1999):
1. Butch Davis
2. RAC
3. Chris Palmer
4. Hue Jackson
5. Chud
6. Pettine
7. Mangini
8. Terry Robiskie
9. Patty Schurmur
I'd put your (wo)mangini 4th and it does not matter how bad 5 thru 9 is.
Saw this post on reddit about Browns interviewing the new OC candidate today:
"I imagine it’s a table in a larger meeting room with a projector showing film and concepts on the wall
There are 4 chairs at the table
Ryan of course is across from Wolf Highsmith and Dorsey
Ryan is going over concepts and how to utilize Njoku Duke Flash and CoCo, he is also introducing a new concept called running the ball more than 5 times a games
There is a fifth chair in the back corner, there sits with a pout on his face and folded arms Hue Jackson mumbling to himself that it’s his offense and he wants to call plays."

Found the thread, and this:
Hope he's ready for the challenge, Interim Head Coach is a big step above QB coach.

Pete Carroll, Tony Dungy, Mike Shanahan, Marv Levy, and I'm sure several others that I am forgetting had great head coaching careers when given a second or third chance.

Which would be another reason not to draft a RB high. Why draft what you won't use?

Especially in this draft. It’s loaded with RBs.
Tabor gone, finally. Not fired, took a job with Chicago

Long national nightmare is over.
Interesting thoughts from Albert Breer. I just missed this interview yesterday.....
