Has the world ended in Minneapolis? Defund the police doesn’t mean get rid of them completely.

Lol Bill Deblasio helping paint BLM in front of Trump Tower with Al Sharpton is quite the look. Fucking idiot.

Also NYC, “ Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, who was twice the city’s top cop, said that at its current rate the city has lost about 20 years of progress in battling crime, and risks returning to a time when the five boroughs were not nearly as safe”

Sounds like a great time to bring on another Law and Order show into the franchise.

I’m not for getting rid of the police. We need police, however the police have shown that they can’t reform themselves because they won’t admit they have a problem. No change can come until police actually believe they need to change. I don’t believe they are likely to do it.

No one is arguing that police don’t need reformed. Unions are a liberal idea... same as in schools it keeps the shitty ones employed for no reason. Get rid of them, everywhere.

All public unions should be dissolved, yes.

But don't you think defunding the gangs would probably be a much more effective approach?

You really haven't been paying attention if you think no one has said to get rid of the police altogether.

Look up the definition of defund if you don't believe it means getting rid of the police, unless you believe police will now be volunteers?

You said no one, then multple people on here showed you that Minneapolis has voted to defund, that prominent Congressmen and Congresswomen, and BLM itself has called for the dismantling/defunding/get rid of police.

Then you move the goal posts by saying "well did the world end in Minneapolis?"

You were shown you were wrong and want to change the conversation to something else now? Come on Geeblock, just realize that some of these people/organizations you are supporting are highly radical in their beliefs.

This, geeblock should look up the difference in definitions of defund and reform.

Minnesota still has all of their police officers. So until u actually see what it looks like just relax. They haven’t even announced what it would be at this point.

I think legalizing drugs would be the most effective way to get rid of gangs and gun violence. So I’m fully on board with defunding gangs. It would also help if Betsy Davos would stop defunding schools!

Expand on this...I'm ignorant to the facts.

I know that federal funding is something around 8% of all education funding. And I also know that per student spending, in general, has done nothing but increase over the past few decades.

They are moving to get rid of public schools by channeling more money to private schools and for profit schools. Most of the largest public schools are in democratic cities. They also aim to remove protections for special education students. Cutting funding for before and after school programs. Ect..

Got it. I'm 100% on board with school choice, and would vote to eliminate the federal DoE if I could, but I guess that's a topic for a different thread.

I don't.  And, incidentally, I support decriminalization not legalization.

But we've now seen a number of developments with marijuana.  First, it has not ended the black market for it.  That's just never going to happen so long as you have taxes and regulation.  Second, the Mexico cartels have started exporting a much more potent "tar".

More directly, has marijuana legalization throughout the US made even a dent in gangs?  And, besides, they'll still traffic in guns, sex and other things.  I think it's a decent assumption that if you eliminate one revenue source, they will find or move onto other sources (which could be more problematic).

Gangs don’t make their money from weed tho. I can’t argue with a lot of your points I don’t have an answer.. I think with gentrification looking at Columbus specifically given more time it will take care of itself. I see streets that used to be overrun with crime and gangs now with 300,000 dollar houses. Hell the short north used to be one of the most dangerous places in the world when I moved here in 98
