The stimulus vs tariff comparison is a good one. Both are trash protectionist approaches to a US/capitalistic economy that truly doesn't need it.

The problem with the "free markets" argument is there actually ARE information asymmetries and other foundational assumptions that don't quite reflect reality.

The point of the tariffs was #1 to get China to assert some pressure on North Korea and #2 to get them to crackdown on the IP theft.  And one could argue that, yes, corporations pay taxes in part for the US to protect their property rights.  In a pure free market, you don't even need patents because the consumer doesn't buy from cheaters, right?

About Obama... I've seen it mentioned about a tan suit several times on here and other places. What does that even mean?

Obama wore a tan suit and I guess it was the first time a president didn’t wear a dark colored suit and it was the topic on Fox for 3 days. The right lost their minds saying he was ruining the country and had no respect for the office

This is why Cocaine Mitch showed up in a Tan suit the day after justice Kennedy announced his retirement.  It brought the lulz.

Stupidity. There were actual concerning reasons to criticize Obama about, color of clothing doesn't even make my list.

Well... unless he wore chartreuse. Then I would have had a fit!

That is outstanding.  Not because the same thing doesn't happen from the left-leaning sources the other way around. But because the right is constantly griping about how unfairly it is treated by the big bad media.

Quaker, will you please spin this for us?

So you think the standard of Hannity is appropriate for the so-called journalists at CNN, WaPo and NYT?  I'm not sure Hannity has ever deceived his viewers that he's anything other than an opinion/commentator.  At least Hannity is honest about what he is.

It absolutely happens on both sides. to say otherwise is just naive or just plain dishonest

Yep.  I present to you Exhibit A:

The tariffs have more to do with curbing the theft of our technology and intellectual property.   They also have to do with free markets, and as soon as they are, we can back off.

Take care.

Thank you for being such a well-timed example of my point.

Our "technology" and "intellectual property" are not curbed by tariffs on physical materials.  Those two things are, by definition, not physical.  The former is entirely conceptual.  The latter is, as its name suggests, 'intellectual' property.

Moreover, this is a regulation on domestic private business owners ... buyers and sellers ... as much as it is on a foreign nation's private business owners ... also buyers and sellers.

Your argument here can literally be summed up as saying, "The market needs government manipulation and increased regulation at the federal level in order to make it more free."

Same exact logic used by Obama in his little "spread the wealth" talk.

Again, thank you for the example.

Well, we are talking about the guy who dedicates himself to being "Exhibit A" as far as constantly bitching about what one side does while completely ignoring or enthusiastically spinning things whenever the other side does the same (or similar) things. Predictability is predictable.

The people who get upset about fashion and the president or first lady are ridiculous. I don't get upset when people talk about how elegant Michelle Obama was but I know quite a few people who do. Why the fuck would i care. (Also lol at people who call her ape or monkey but then try to tell me they don't hate Obama because he's black.)

For the sake of argument, let's say Michelle Obama is ugly as fuck with no sense of style. So what? Does every first lady have to be Jackie Kennedy? Imho we could use a few more Eleanor Roosevelt's.

I think you're probably doing all right if your critics are slamming your wardrobe.

But just to show you how ridiculous things are, I'd say TheHill.com is probably considered pretty balanced/middle of the road.  But that's only because they have a relatively equal number of partisan contributors.  Pretty much the best you can hope for these days is that an opinion piece at least gets all it's facts right (gone are the days where persuasion actually involved rebutting strong evidence to the contrary).

Disclaimer:  Like you I tend to rely on the Hill, Reason, and RealClear (i know you didn't mention them) for relatively "balanced" news.

I know Fox News likes to bring in opposing views, but let's be real they easily have a heavy right leaning bias.  I don't think that has ever been a question and Fox really ever has tried to hide it.

To your main point though, I do get a chuckle out of people like gblock and boogie who get rattled by the ONLY right-wing mainstream news source and somehow chalk it up as a level playing field to CNN, NBC, WaPO,NYT, etc.  To further drive in a point there was a study done that shows 90% of the journalists in media identify as liberal.

If you really want to be like gblock though and compare the Trump/Bbama media coverage we can.  When it comes to protecting Trump, Fox News has done far less than the entire media did to protect Obama.   It's not even debatable. This is why Obama sheep like gblock still perpetuate the meme that Obama's only scandal/controversy in the White House was when he wore a tan suit.  It's really not hard to figure out why gblock brought up the tan suit out of nowhere lol. Now standby for gblock to post and pretend he isn't following this meme.

Maybe it is because I don't follow the hill, but they have some decidedly hardcore democrat writers. I've seen numerous republicans Pounce/ Seize healdines where the actual article should be about what the actual person did, not the republicans response to it.

Like gut said, they are relatively balanced, because they have writers on both sides of the spectrum.  Their social media pages tend to post the articles your referring to though.

i just think maybe you didnt notice the obama criticism and now you notice the trump criticism.  its pretty simple.  i dont know why i have to be a sheep tho. dont know why i have to be 'rattled'  you commonly use terms like this as well as race card, crying racism, dividing the country, sjw, being negative ect.. when someone makes a point that you dont like so as to marginalize the point.  Im used to it

Well, you're wrong.  I did notice it and it typically only came from one source.  Some of it was justified, some of it was bullshit (tan suit). What was/is more noticeable is what he got away without legitimate criticism.  I just think you don't realize how protected he was outside of Fox News and this website.

As far as the term "rattled," it's a pretty common term. I probably say it a lot, because I follow a lot of barstool content.  It's been awhile since I have dropped a "SJW," and I don't consider you a SJW, so I am not sure why I would call you a SJW.  Do you have proof?  I am more than happy to admit I am wrong.  I do believe you tend to be the residential race baiter of this site, although I can't recall saying you were divisive.  You did earlier in this thread insecurely tell me "fuck you" and then later promise not to divide this country though.

If it seems like I am marginalizing your points, it's probably because I have given you ample opportunities to provide a legitimate counter and you 95% of the time come back with your typical straw man argument.  Either that or you come in with the simpleton meme/anecdotal arguments such as the tan suit.   If you now want to act like a victim though, I guess go for it...

I don't disagree with your point that both sides do it.  My point is you're kidding yourself if you think the playing field is leveled.  There is plenty of legitimate data (i.e. not op-eds serving your stance) that proves this.  Do you have any data that supports your argument it is a level playing field or are you just going to provide anecdotal evidence?

Meh. He brings it on himself with his constant trolling and blatant lies. He can take a policy that I actually could agree with and add so much bullshit rhetoric and lies to it that I wouldn’t possibly vote for it. He brings it in himself and he loves it. U could take every single policy he has proposed and have Obama or kasic or any sane person write his speeches and Twitter and he probably would be loved by both sides but instead he comes off as a wishy washy white nationalist for no other reason than he wants to
