Guns and Mass Shootings

I remember a bank robbery where fully automatic weapons were used (Los Angeles?), but am not aware of any mass shootings with them.

It would still be accurate to call the North Hollywood robbery and shoot-out a  "mass shooting" - 12 cops and 8 citizens were hit by the robbers, just blind luck none of them died.  1200 full-auto rounds shot by the bad guys wearing body armor.  Took 30 minutes for cops to get close enough and hit unprotected areas to slow them down before killing them.

Do I have the answer?  Wish I did.  I'm not a mental health expert.  But most folks make it through school despite being made fun of.  Been asking myself why this guy went after those particular 4th graders.  If it was because of being bullied or teased, why didn't he go after his fellow seniors who supposedly had tormented him all those years?  Or did he know that seniors in Texas have CCW's and are packing in school?

I do know simply banning semi-auto rifles won't have much appreciable effect on gun death rates.  Those in favor of it will feel better about themselves, so I guess that's something.

I don't disagree something is different.  I just don't see evidence that guns are the cause.

I'm pretty sure America has a much bigger issue with alcohol relative to Europe, as well.  Obesity,,,,,We could go on and on, and I'm pretty sure the reason is cultural and not the food, beer or guns.

But what is it in our culture?

That’s a long list and gun ownership shouldn’t be in the top 10.

Harden the schools is the best solution. Several people have brought it up

That could help but campuses nowadays are too big and too spread out.

Funding school security is #1.  Most schools that have resource officers and private security have to pay for it with grant money or money taken from vital educational resources.

Federal government fund it to the gills and see if that solves the issue.  Easy to tell within a year.

The problem with this is that there are sick SOB in DC that won’t want to fund this because it destroys their narratives on reducing gun ownership.

Saying you don’t know what the solution is or saying that taking guns from law abiding citizens isn’t the answer is a FAR CRY from saying you are “ok with school shootings happening”

Don’t be that asshole geeblock.

At the jr sr high school I work at, every door is locked, front entrance has a magnetic entry in the foyer that you buzz in and office has video of you to allow you in.  We also have a resource officer, he walks around building.

My ideas include zero visitors allowed in building unless they can show they are not carrying a weapon. Checked by resource officer watching video.  If parents or visitors dont like it, get lost.

Deliveries left in foyer, not picked up until foyer is empty.  Teachers and administrators checking external doors that are locked.

Another resource officer added as well to each building.

The problem with going after the mental health and gun debate are those pesky bill of rights amendments.

Hey I’m just saying I’m fine with do several things approach. Ramp up security in schools and add some restrictions or whatever. I’m not trying to take your guns. But the answer can’t be do nothing because we can’t stop drunk driving or fill in the blank other ways people die
