Lol ok whiny baby. They don’t let u drink til 21 for what reason? So why should you be able to buy a gun
Alcohol is not a right. Also I think they should lower the drinking age to 18.

posted by geeblockHey I’m just saying I’m fine with do several things approach. Ramp up security in schools and add some restrictions or whatever. I’m not trying to take your guns. But the answer can’t be do nothing because we can’t stop drunk driving or fill in the blank other ways people die
But that’s not what you said.
You said those without a solution are ok with school shootings happening which is just an asinine comment and being an asshole.
I don't know that I have any real answer beyond generic "do something about mental health" talk since that is a huge issue in our society in general, or random ideas that may or may not have any actual merit (such as treating gun ownership as a responsibility where owners must undergo mandatory training and whatnot or something to prove competence -- much like a person has to do in order to continue receiving a driver's license).
But I do totally appreciate the comical attempts to deflect from legit horrible acts like school shootings by comparing them to the flu. I have to say, of all the things anyone could say about the issue, I wasn't expecting any sort of "If you aren't talking about every conceivable way a child could possibly die, you're just being hoodwinked by BIG CABLE NEWS by caring about mass shootings!!!!!" card to be played by anyone short of an NRA representative.
I will say that of ideas presented here, Majorspark's idea of retired military personnel doing guard duty is the best (as long as they can pass a competency test -- don't want any PTSD'd-to-insanity dudes with their fingers on the trigger). At least those guys aren't going to hide from danger like the cops here and with the Parkland school shooting in the past did. Let the people trained to handle dangerous situations to that and let the local cops handle doughnut patrol or whatever they feel competent enough to do without fucking it all up.
If a full force investigation was done on all of this (hypothetically), I would put a large sum of money on the root of the problem being our nation's media, and that includes social media. Social media is the cause of societal rot, in my opinion.

I’m not ready to blame society because these things only happen in certain places so far.. seems like there should be a way to target those type of individuals by some type of testing at school. We test them for everything else. Seems like there are some commonalities that could be coorilated.

I’m down with lowering it to 18
I’m all for more sensible gun laws but banning ARs and bump stocks is not the solution. Put together a committee who actually own guns and use guns. The bump stock ban was useless but because it was used in one mass shooting and became a buzz word they were banned. ARs look scary so let’s ban them.
What would I do? I would increase the penalty for all crimes when guns are used even more so then now. Longer waiting periods go for it.

Other developed countries have similar news media and also the same social media, but not regular school shootings. Why the difference?
posted by supermanMore people are killed every year by glass coffee tables than by ARs. Anyone who wants to ban ARs can GFY.
Harden the schools.
We protect our money with guns. We protect our politicians with guns.
We protect our kids with signs. It's fucking ridiculous at this point.
Shocking that school shooters don’t just bring coffee tables to school instead… clearly more dangerous!

According to FBI statistics.
This isn’t necessarily related, kinda is tho, but do other countries have lawyers that are so soft on criminals? Or just America? It wouldn’t have stopped this one, but we are so set on not angering people that criminals go uncharged until they kill someone.

My question I can’t comprehend is how does an 18 year old working at Wendy’s afford two ARs, those two models cost around $1800, and 365 rounds, which cost easily another $250.
So this kid working at Wendy’s could afford almost $4000 in guns/ammo? Tell me where he got that kind of money. Something doesn’t add up.

I am having a hard time finding anything in the Constitution about drinking alcohol.

My 18 year old works in the food industry and has about that amount of money. It’s called savings.

I can see that, I waited tables at 19 and by the time I got married (1 month shy of 21) I paid for our $2000 honeymoon cruise with cash back in the year 2000.
It’s just not very typical.

Based upon the definition of a “mass shooting” used in this article, I don’t doubt the statistics. Where the US has no competitor though is in instances of someone going into a school and shooting students. That specific crime is very unique to us.
To me it’s got nothing to do with it being a top cause of death. Most everyone knows a kid is much more likely to die in a car wreck than in a school shooting. It’s the principle of the matter - that a school should be safe. When these crimes happen, they take away that comfort. It’s not that they are likely to happen everywhere. It’s that there seems to be no predictor as to where or when they will happen.
