Also, cut the shit about harming responsible gun owners. They can manage just fine with any regulation. I don't think increasing the strength of background checks is going to have a material impact on responsible gun owners, but it will have a material impact on reducing mass murders. Plus, there's an externality that all gun owners currently aren't paying for and that's how you can justify increased cost of gun ownership.

Most of my guns are old and unregistered. I will never register them, because one of the gun grabbers biggest problems is they don't know where all the guns are. I won't make it easier for them.

I think this is kind of a cliche/misnomer that is spouted too often. I agree, people will get guns if they really want them but having a more controlled market makes it more difficult and more risky. Those two attributes can prevent future mass shootings by simply creating friction in acquiring a weapon.

It's really no different than drugs in this country. Sure, if I want say cocaine, I can probably get it. But there are pain points, risk, and steps to take in order to find a seller and in that process of acquiring something illegally, you may prevent someone from actually getting that item altogether. It's worth a shot and I think it would make a big impact without completing burning the 2nd amendment.

It's funny to me that your example of why it might work to ban guns is of something that is illegal and anyone can buy. Hey it didn't work for drugs, let's try it with guns.

No arguments here. I don't own a gun or need one, and have only shot one once. Contrary to what Belly says, I can't imagine how banning them would negatively impact my life that significantly. Whatever regulations and rules they want to put in place wouldn't make a difference to me.

I never said ban guns. I said regulate them. Drugs are infinitely harder to get because they are banned, but yes some people are still able to get them. So let's just stick our head in the sand and not try at all to mitigate mass killings in our country.

Gun ownership is at an all time high and yet gun violence is declining. I don't think banning guns would keep them out of the hands of people who wanted them anymore than banning drugs would keep them away from addicts

I'd like to know what everyone here who can't live without their guns would be saying if you had a family member shot in a mass shooting like this or if you were one of these parents who lost a child in Cleveland to stray bullets. If new gun regulations make it harder for people to obtain guns, then what's your issue? You're so obsessed with your 2nd amendment right, that if the answer to less people dying is making it harder to obtain and own a gun, you lose your fucking minds.

So there are still approximately 2 million guns in Australia. There are 300 million guns in the US. If we were to have a similar program with similar results there would be 200 million guns in the US.

If I had a family member who was killed in any way I would not blame an inanimate object.

1) I'm not blaming the gun. I'm blaming how easy it is to obtain them.

2) If you had a family member who was shot, you'd be sitting here going "Nothing wrong with the system, they should've known better and been carrying a gun" I doubt it.

3) New gun regulations should make it harder for anyone to obtain one. Of course you go right to the argument "but but but...what if they only make it harder for ME to get a gun and not the crazies gang members!!" This coming from the same person who thinks the president will come take their gun away.

No regulation is going to perfect, just like how it is now. The goal is to mitigate, not eliminate, the options for people with mental disorders from acquiring a weapon. This will have minimal impact to mentally stable people who are currently not paying for the externality of owning a gun.
