For all you religious right wingers - Joel Olsteen (the smarmy evangelist from TX and his money sucking wife) were just on the Today show and when Laurer said we are all seeking answers today - this asshole said God's free will plan also sometimes includes those who choose the free will path of committing evil. But all the rest of us need to keep our faith and choose the path of good and righteousness.

Maybe Adam Lanza was the world's most fervent believer in God and knowing that God was giving him free will to do whatever he wanted made his heinous act OK? The Bible thumpers took a huge hit this past weekend and they are circling the wagons because they are probably more worried of losing members today than the NRA is. [/INDENT]

Although this would probably please you these incidents tend to unify and solidify "fringe" Christians.

My point is FBI profilers will tell you these kind of mass shooters tend to be white, 20 - 35 yr old, raised middle class in a home that claims to be "Christian". Why is that do you think? We love to point the finger at Muslim extremists at hating Americans but the cold hard truth is that "Christians" kill other "Christians" 100x more often in this country than any Muslims do.

If God was ever out there...He moved down the Universe block a long time ago folks and we gotta figure out how to take care of these problems ourselves people...Faith ain't doin didly to help us at this point.

Did someone suggest that "faith" was going to help us stop people from carrying out mass murders? I have never heard that before.

Yes that was essentially what Joel Olsteen was saying...everybody keep the faith and keep praying and somehow God will magically make you all feel better. But don't forget to keep sending those millions of dollars to my ministery because I have a direct hot line to Heaven that allows me and God to chat occasionally and I know He is watching over us.

Those are two different things. How one feels can be impacted by their faith. According to you he didn't say it would help us stop people carrying out mass murders.

Exactly! Olsteen (and a multi-million others) say Faith ain't gonna help stop the mass killings but keep believing in God anyway because He will help you deal with the aftermath.

Seems like a kinda futile belief system to me.

Huckabee is an idiot. If churches were forced to pay taxes like other businesses, we could afford to staff schools with 2 to 3 police officers armed to the teeth in every school in America. Amazing that people of faith condone these types of violent activities and do nothing to stop it.

Lot's of questions there.

I am not Catholic so purgatory is not part of my belief. Your sins have already been atoned for. You are not punished for sins. You can't help it. You are by nature sinful. Your only protection from eternal damnation is Christ. A true belief in him as the Messiah should lead to repentance.

To answer your questions directly....I don't think I would be punished by God if I cheated on my wife and no one found out. This is because of my belief in Christ. I do think I would have remorse, ask for forgiveness and repent.

If I prayed to a new God, which is a sin also, I believe I would have rejected the belief in my Triune God, meaning I don't believe in Christ, I do believe God would "smite" me or inflict a heavy blow and that blow would be not being with Him eternally.

There are lots of different ways to respond to answering for your sins when you die. I'll try to explain it this way. There is a judgement day coming after Christ returns. Belief in him will absolve those sins. With such belief there's nothing to answer for. He has already paid the price for those sins.

Regarding your last question...if you sin your whole life and do not believe in God you will not be with Him eternally. If you find that to be a punishment then yes, I guess you are punished.

Are you resurrected when Jesus is resurrected? If not that's a pretty shitty deal to die before that happens.
