Not exactly the New York Times reporting this, but thought this would make for some interesting banter:

http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2011/07/beltran-to-cleveland-possible-prospects.html

I know very little about the Tribe's farm system, any thoughts on some logical matches? Anyone of that list untouchable?

I doubt White or Pomeranz are available, to anyone, for anyone. Especially Drew (Pomeranz).

You can have anyone else currently on the AAA team you want, if we get Beltran.

Have heard this rumor but no way I'd give up a top notch prospect for a rent a bat. Might be willing to part with someone for a Pence, who is under contract for a few more years.

I hope it happens just so the rumors that are starting to go around about the Braves being interested in Beltran can't come to fruition.

There is absolutely no way Drew or Alex will be involved in any trade unless its for a legit MLB starting pitcher.

White would still be in our rotation if he hadn't of gotten hurt so I wouldn't exactly call him a prospect. Drew should be in contention for a rotation spot next season.

I dislike rental players who cost top prospects.

Exactly. I have no issue parting with Kipnis, or any of the others listed. But not pitching. Its tough to trade or sign pitching. Most teams have to develop their aces, so no...I dont want to ever trade guys that good.

Would like to see them go for Pence and not Beltran. They would have Pence for more than a year. I think White and Pomeranz are untouchable and I would add Gomez to that list also.

Pence is probably a stretch, I'd look more at guys like Francoeur who is batting .264 with 13 HR's and 58 RBI's. Plus the guy has a Choo like cannon for an arm.

I wouldn't trade any of our top pitching prospects (White, Pomeranz, Gomez, McCallister etc) right now unless its for a starting pitcher.

I would love to plug Beltran into the middle of this line-up, probably at #3. IF they could pull it off, the line-up after the middle of August could be solid w/ Brantley, Asdrubal, Beltran, Hafner, Santana, Choo in the top 6. That being said, unless the Tribe brass plans on opening the check book and signing Beltran at the end of the year(no chance) I wouldn't give up any of these guys:
Chisenhall, Pomeranz, White, Kipnis, Hagadone, Aguilar, Washington, Knapp

From recent reports, the Mets are looking for some top level prospects for Beltran. If they don't move off that stance, I can't see the Tribe making that move. I heard John Kruk say that the Pirates owe it to their fans who have waited for a winner to go out and get a guy like Carlos Beltran. While it would be nice to have him and make them more competitive, it doesn't make sense for a team in the Pirates or Indians situation to give up any guys in their system that have high ceilings for a player that is only going to be here for less than 1/2 a season.

Gomez is 9-3 in Columbus with a 2.4 ERA.

He is just 23 years old, not trading him unless its for a starter.

They can have anyone but drew, white, and chiz. The tribe can part with Gomez and mccalaster bc the tribe is loaded at pitching and they won't be in the future rotation. I would love Beltran with Grady being out.

I hope it doesn't happen. As stated by others, I don't want to see any top prospects given up for a rent-a-bat.

He has great #'s at AAA, but I don't think he projects into the starting rotation. Assuming good health:
Masterson, Pomeranz, White, Carrasco, Tomlin could be your 5-man by as early as next year. Gomez has major league talent, but I don't think the Indians would hold up a deal if a team insists he is part of it if they are getting back a quality bat.

One thing you'll learn, especially being a smaller market team that cannot go out and buy pitching, is that you can never have enough pitching.

This front office stresses having deep pitching options.

Plus, I highly doubt you can say that Gomez or McCallister won't be in the future rotations when you have an owner with tight pockets and starters like Carmona/Talbot etc who were or currently are in the rotation.

I remember people complaining about Carrasco last year saying how he'll never be part of the rotation and now look at him.

They will not give up any of their top pitching prospects for Beltran, who is going to be a rental.

I don't care if he is the #6 guy in the rotation, this year shows how important depth is. We have had basically our entire pitching staff miss starts or long periods of time. I am not getting rid of our depth in the pitching department for a rent a bat player.

I don't mind giving up Kipnis or another position player for a bat.

If they do this, I'd like to see if they could somehow get Bruce Chen in that deal (arm AND a bat). As long as they didn't have to give up too much to do it.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I want to win a World Series....If Beltran is the guy to help us do it, then I don't mind parting with the #3 pitching prospect, and some low "A" ball players. Your going to have to give up something to get something.

This year isn't a World Series year with the pieces they have now. Beltran is not gong to put the team over the top. You can only hope these guys get hot at the right time, because that is the only chance of making a run at a WS title.

Beltran isn't the player that will put us over the top.

He could be the guy to do this IF, and it is a big IF, some of the other players in the line up step up. That would be Santana, Chiz, and LaPorta. Plus you would be counting on Fausto pitching like 2007 instead of the majority of this season. But I wouldn't include White or Pomeranz in any trade. Maybe they would take One of the AAA pitchers and 2 lower prospects, like Chen and Weglarz. Chen has a very high ceiling as does Weglarz. They are desperate to unload salary and really need to.
