When you retire do you want to move? If so where would you move?

We have friends who inherited a place in the villages in Florida. They are keeping it and planning on renting it out.

We went down over the weekend with them to the villages because they were having a small golf tournament in honor of his dad. We absolutely loved the place. House prices are pretty reasonable and there is so much to do down there. Hop in a golf cart and you can pretty much do any kinda hobby or activity you want. 72 golf courses to pick from. Only bad thing is everything shuts down around 9:30ish at night.

It’s 55 plus but about 20% of the people who live there are under 55. I could definitely see my wife and I moving them in about 5-8 years.

Yes. Fuck Chicago (midwest, really). Summers are great. Thanksgiving week - New Years is great. The rest of the year largely sucks and is unpredictable.

My preference would be Arizona or North Carolina. I think my wife wants North Carolina most, so that'll likely be it. I could never live in Florida -- much prefer visiting. I could do California but the prices and traffic would make me hate the decision.

I guess it depends on where I am living at that point. Currently in SC so probably wouldn’t leave there, depending on where kids end up.

My MIL moved to a 55+ community outside of HHI called Margaritaville, and it’s pretty awesome. A nice restaurant on site, tons of activities and pools, can just cruise on the golf cart. They have live music at night on the weekends.

I don't like the golf. That grass eats my clubs alive. And while I love the ocean for views, I would pick the Pacific for that. Mostly, I like mountains over ocean, and there is just nothing in Florida that doesn't incorporate the ocean. Arizona obviously has none. Carolina does, but we would liekly live inland (MAYBE WIlmington) in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, or Asheville. California would likely be a coastal city, but the ocean at that point is much more scenic than every day life.

Yeah this place has live music every day from about 12-9. Probably 25+ community pools. 50+ pickleball courts. 25+ softball fields I think it’s spread across about 57 square miles.

I think there are 5-6 main squares where they have restaurants bars and live music.
